Updating manifest values in other files

New to frontend and working on a PCF using react that is a few tables with functionality. I know in the index file to update props you would call notifyoutputchanges and it would set the output values from the manifest. Is there anyway to do this in other files, like directly setting a property? Or will I have to move all my react components to the one file..? Also does the file need to be called index to import into Dynamics?

Nevermind. Just discovered passing event handlers. This will allow me to preserve the data I needed.
