this is a very much needed trigger to work fluidly and on a proper way with planner! Im in the need to update my sharepoint list everytime the planner task progress changes but its been IMPOSSIBLE!
I've just started exploring the option of moving from Excel in to a Planner / Sharepoint List with MS Flow handling the workflow. I was just as surprised as all of you appear to be that such an obvious trigger is missing in Planner. Having a trigger for when a Planner task is modified would allow us to:
- Update the progress status in the corresponding task in a Sharepoint List
- Update fields such as start date and due date, and amend comment logs in the SP list (such as 'user amended the due date', or 'task was reassigned by xxx').
- Trigger custom email events where needed
- Track events such as the user deleting a task, renaming it, or moving it in to a different bucket.
Hopefully MS adds this soon, seems like such a big opportunity missed to not have this trigger.
I have been creating a CRM system in Powerapps Model driven application. So far I have inventory management and project management next to the list of customers and companies. I am already preparing locations for when I could integrate Planner with this CRM system, since it is something that was requested from me to integrate.
When the trigger is available I would be able to do the following: - Update the tasks progress and status - Sending reminder emails and notifications based on dates - Sending notifications when mentioned in a task
If possible I would use it with cds entities: - Connection with Timesheets to keep track of spend time on a task, task progress and estimating time till completion - Connection with Projects for easier follow-up / tracking - Improved Project cost calculation based on tasks / time tracking (especially since a project never closes but rather switches to support) - Improved Project invoicing yet to pay calculation, based on paid invoices, spend hours on open tasks and extra costs (that were made like broken devices) - Easier access to related customers to send them updates on task progress. - Sending an overview of all tasks of a specific project for easier follow-up / tracking - Viewing tasks of specific devices (e.g. broken service on android tablet)
There are probably more items to be added to this list in the future.
I hope that this trigger will be added soon, so these features can be implemented.
