Trigger for when an email is moved to a folder

It would be very helpful to have a trigger for when an email is moved to a specific folder.  I have an outlook server rule which tags my incoming messages with categories.  After reading them I move them to a single folder "no action required".  I have a series of client rules which I enable and manually run which check the categories and move the messages to folders for longer term archiving.  It would be nice to have a trigger so when I move the item to the folder it is a trigger for other actions.

I need to create a flow that is triggered by email being moved to a specific folder to be reprocessed (because 'when new email arrives' doesn't trigger on every single email...). As I understood from your comments, if I use 'when new email arrives' with a folder that is not inbox and the user will move the email there, the flow will only be triggered if the email is 'new'?

We (a corporation with 20k+ users of Office 365) need this also with shared mailboxes. Today only exists "When a e-mail arrives in a shared mailbox" which disregards emails sent on dates earlier than the date they were moved to the folder.

This would be a great feature and I hope it is added soon, but I did find a work-around, at least for myself. This may not work for you, depending on your situation (esp. how you / your org uses flags). I wanted to make a flow that created a sharepoint list item when I moved an outlook item to a particular folder, which of course is not directly possible.

 

Instead, I set up a flow that triggers when a message in that particular folder becomes flagged, then I combined that with a custom outlook Quick Step that moves a selected email from my inbox to that folder and flags it.

 

Now, I can just use the Quick Step on the email and the flow triggers.

This trigger would very welcome! I want to move client emails to a specific client folder, and once I move them there, they would be forwarded to the archive for that client (an email address).

Would it be possible to get feedback on whether this feature will ever be implemented? The original question was posted in 2017, but still seems to have traction now. It would be very userful to have something like this implemented.

Much needed.  The new 'when an email arrives V3' will not trigger on emails with received time prior to the time of the last run of the flow!  The old webhook worked perfectly but is now depreciated.  So we need

 

Either:

  • A new webhook - the old trigger fired once an email arrived in ANY specified folder
  • or change 'when an email arrives V3' to trigger on email arrival in the folder (ignoring the email date/time) - in other words - the trigger does what it says in the description!
