How to make sure that user can only select himself in the column person datatype?

we are trying to automate employee offboarding process for our company. Now the process start when a user inserts a item in list. This is detail about person who is resigning. it contains a person column where he selects himself to initiate the process. the problem is anyone could select anyone and initiate the resign process for the other person. i want the user inserting data to only see himself in person column so that he cannot initiate request for other people.
