Current Location on Animal Table power FX

I am trying to have the current location to give the animal location detail whilst checking the current shelter status e.g.

If shelter status is in foster home to give me details from the foster claimer column

if shelter status is ready for adoption to give me details from the foster claimer column

if shelter status is claimed for adoption to give me details from the foster claimer column

if shelter status is in shelter to give me details from the initial shelter column

if shelter status is ready for foster to give me details from the initial shelter column

else to give me blank .

Some body please help with the formula I have been stuck

Hello @StineN  and @Oyin

Thanks for your replies. But i really lost in the problem. Because I created new tables.
Animal_Detail
FosterDetail
Shelter_Detail

Still when i try to import data form csv to Animal_Detail table i got error for 25 rows. (releated the lookup columns on currentlocation)

But if i put the data manually through the form that i created i can. Also i can find the lookup values from different tables there is no problem. Unfortunately i can not directly import from csv.

For the Foster_Detail and Shelter_Detail tables i arrange the primary columns ID columns. And also i changed the column name as like 'FosterIdentity' and 'ShelterIdentity'

I really don't understand the problem. There is no logic that i found. Because i said i can import data manually through the Form.

Regards

Hi,

I don't know how to help with the import, unfortunately. Maybe you can contact Microsoft support, or maybe @Sonnyinseattle can help?

I agree that the lookup columns seem to be set up right when you can add the data manually without errors. When I imported the tables I also had a lot of errors, but most of them were related to the date fields being wrong because of localization. Not sure how you can fix the errors related to the lookup.

Hi @StineN ,

Thank you for sharing the comprehensive formula.

Regarding the Power Fx formula for the Current Location, I have attempted to run the suggested formula you provided; however, I am consistently encountering a formula error prompt. Despite trying alternative formulas, I have encountered the same issue persistently, please refer to the image below.

Additionally, I noticed that you have a "single line text fx" option in your screenshot, which I have not found available in my "data type" display. Could you provide insight on how to navigate through this issue?

Here is the Fx formula in details:

Switch(
    ShelterStatus,
    'ShelterStatus (AnimalDetail)'.'In Shelter', InitialShelter.ShelterID,
    'ShelterStatus (AnimalDetail)'.'Ready for Foster', InitialShelter.ShelterID,
    'ShelterStatus (AnimalDetail)'.'In Foster Home', FosterClaimer.FosterID,
    'ShelterStatus (AnimalDetail)'.'Claimed for Adoption', FosterClaimer.FosterID,
    'ShelterStatus (AnimalDetail)'.'Ready for Adoption', FosterClaimer.FosterID,
    'ShelterStatus (AnimalDetail)'.Adopted, Blank()
)

Hello @TianaFash!

I pasted your formula into a new column with the data type Power Fx formula, and it worked with some modifications. I changed the table name to fit my solution, and then added some quotes on the last line. So hopefully it will work for you too 😊

I would suggest trying these two things:

- Use quotes on the last line, where you refer to the choice 'Adopted':

'ShelterStatus (AnimalDetail)'.'Adopted', Blank()

- Check the logical name of your table.

Not sure if this is the case, but your logical name might be different because of the space in your table name ("Animal Detail"). You can seeit under Properties in your table overview, and then click on "Advanced options":

The data type "single line of text fx" is the same as choosing the data type Fx formula - it changes automatically after saving the column.

Hope this helps!

Hi @StineN ,

Thank you for your response. Despite trying the suggested methods, I still encounter the same error message. I have decided to proceed with the other steps and skip the current location table. Maybe when I revisit it after completing the challenge, the issue will resolve itself. Thank you .

hello @StineN ,

i am stuck here with the power fx formula for the current location column, i used the below formula but it is displaying error,

Switch(
     Shelter Status,
    'Shelter Status (Animal data)'.'In Shelter', Initial Shelter.ShelterID,
    'Shelter Status (Animal data)'.'Ready for Foster',Initial Shelter.ShelterID,
    'Shelter Status (Animal data)'.'In Foster Home', Foster Claimer.FosterID,
    'Shelter Status (Animal data)'.'Claimed for Adoption', Foster Claimer.FosterID,
    'Shelter Status (Animal data)'.'Ready for Adoption', Foster Claimer.FosterID,
    'Shelter Status (Animal Data)'.'Adopted', Blank())
please do you have any suggestions

I have been able to save the fx formula for the current location after a lot of concentration on the signs and checking if the letters are in upper case or lower case. thanks

This is a helpful solution.

I just need to add that, your Foster Claimer and Initial Shelter must be looking up to Foster Family Information and the Shelter Tables respectively.
