Add Version Control to PA Studio

I find it ridiculous that there are some functions that are available in the Web Editor that are not available in PA Studio -- one of them is being able to rollback to a previous version. While in some cases, this is workable, the rollback function is often not.

My main problem here is that when I edit an app in PowerApps, decide that whatever I was trying to do was not working, and undoing the changes is just inconvenient -- I just want to be able to rollback to a version I want. So, I usually just go to File > Share and that opens a web browser window. Then, on that new window, click on Versions. I find the version I want to rollback to and click on its corresponding Restore button. A dialog box appears and I click the Restore button. Guess what happens? I get this message -- "Restore failed. 'Whatever App I'm Editing Right Now' is locked by Name (User Email)". Even when I close PA Studio, it still doesn't allow me rollback. I have to wait for god knows how long for it to unlock just so I can rollback.

So, PA Team -- Do this? I mean, it wouldn't be much of a stretch. PA Studio, if I read what your support team had posted a while ago, is just IE11.

EDIT: Forgot to remove personal information from the error message.

By design, versioning options will always reside in the cloud, which is why you are redirected there when using the desktop Studio app to share or to review versions (let me know if I'm misunderstanding your ask).

On the other hand, the error message you mentioned makes me think you may have an issue we should look into (which is 'not' by design). Would you be willing to open a support ticket? You can do that from the top navigation "Support" link of the community. If you have an urgent situation, please don't hesitate to private message me so we can connect directly.

Thank you for your patience while we determine what might be causing that issue for you.

@TheLoneWoof Thanks for highlighting the difficulty you're having. Is this locking issue only occuring while you're editing in the Desktop editor and trying to revert the version, or does it also happen while you're editing using the Web editor and trying to revert the version? Need some more info- thanks! Smiley Happy

@emmac --

Again, the locking issue appears when I open the app for editing in PA Studio before attempting to rollback. Closing PA Studio doesn't immediately fix the problem.

For browsers, I have no idea. I've been avoiding the Web Editor because of all the crashes and session time-outs.

Any updates or any other questions you might want to add? Or have you guys just left this idea like all the other ideas in this community?

@TheLoneWoof This feature appears to be working for the web editor, and the desktop editor uses the same feature but the "locking" bug is preventing it from working properly. Are you saying that you want a Desktop Client version of the Version control for apps, or does fixing the way it currently opens the browser verison page fulfill your need?

Also thanks for reporting and for your patience as we chase these things down! In the meantime, a workaround is to close the desktop studio and to edit apps/use the version control in the web editor.  Also I want to acknowledge that we are listening and hear you about web editor reliability and performance - which is why we have devoted many of our resources to focus on these experiences in this new year, and hope to improve steadily with each release. Not exactly. I'm suggesting that Version Control be in PA Studio. But if the locking mechanism gets fixed, I'm fine with that too.

I'm still wary of using the Web Editor after several unfortunate experiences with it in the past. Even just two weeks ago, I've tried to use the web editor but it crashed when I tried to view Collections

Well, at least I got a response back. Thanks!

As for the response ticket, I really don't want the hassle. The "locking" thing only sets me back around 10 to 30 minutes. It does get annoying though. Can't I just be able to override my session in the browser, then? Like when I switch editors, for example?
