Native support for Stored Procedures

In application development, it is best practice to keep as much of your database manipulation code in the database itself rather than in the application. This is accomplished by calling Stored Procedures to perform common data manipulation tasks. This simplifies your application code and makes it easier to maintain in the long run.

Proposal:

  • Create new “CallProcedure” function that accepts parameters and returns values specified by the stored procedure.

Calling a procedure:

CallProcedure(ProcedureName, {Parameters})

Viewing return values:

Set(ReturnValues, CallProcedure(ProcedureName, {Parameters}))

ReturnValues.Value1

ReturnValues.Value2

ReturnValues.Value2

Calling procedures like this would also allow triggers to fire, albeit not natively as discussed below.
