Schedulable Workflows & Plug-Ins

Author Name: SIMON HUTSON

Workflows are triggered by events (create, update, assign etc), however in many cases the ability to schedule workflows on a periodic basis is also required. CRM already has a scheduling engine, used for many system processes, as well as some user-defined processes such as Bulk Record Deletion. Why can't we open this up for schduling workflow? In addition, we could make this available to schedule plug-ins as well, providing total flexibility for developers.

Thanks for your suggestion, we do not have this in our plans for next release due to other higher priority scenarios , but we will keep this in the radar for a future release. Regards Microsoft

I agree with Simon as it would be great to have the ability to have a schedule a workflow for say 6pm each day as an example. I can see a lot of benefits to this.

Totally agree, scheduling a workflow is a must! as people are doing workarounds like scheduling delete jobs and then having plugins firing on delete.

Wow, 6 years on and no change. It doesn't have to run in minutes but at least daily for start.

Yes, woow 6 years ago, and nothing happend since then? This is Really long long long term!!

We need f.e. To set the next birthday field..and need to run a daily workflow in combination with a view that has every next birthdays of yesterday, to set only these contacts in the field next birtday to plus one year. Its no option to have waiting workflows for One Year for thausends of contacts. The same thing to calculate the actal age.

I know there are solutions out there which can do this, but its not the same if we have this included otb.

Thx pit

Still no change.

I think with Microsoft Flow you can now do this with a pretty decent degree of control (the only thing that might be missing is the ability to directly run workflows from the Flow CRM interface).
