ERROR: 'To:' is required Email (v2)

I have a flow that is copied from other flows I've made and use successfully all the time, and yet this one refuses to work.

 

I simply need it to send an email to an address outside of our organization. Except it wont. It refuses. If I type in any email from within our organization it works fine. So the flow works. Yet, an email outside the organization (It doesn't matter what domain I use) it gives me an error "'To' is required" but I've put something in. It isn't blank. Why??

 

I've checked for settings that are maybe bad? I've tried exporting it, changing the code manually and then importing it. It just will not save with an email outside of our domain, because it flags it as an error.

 

I created a contact in our exchange contacts with the email address to mail it to, but Power Automate won't look at the global address book like Outlook can, it only looks at active mailboxes apparently. So it still shows "Suggested People: No results Found." 

 

Yet I've checked the other flows that work and email to addresses outside of our organization, and they work without there being an exchange contact created for them. Once again, I don't understand this, I'm stumped. Why isn't this working? >.< No good.

By default the To field in that action is set to use an internal people picker.  That's why it won't accept an external email.  To input an external email switch off the people picker by clicking on the double arrow above and to the right. After doing that the "Suggested People" dropdown will disappear and you'll be able to enter any legal email, even external ones.

By default the To field in that action is set to use an internal people picker.  That's why it won't accept an external email.  To input an external email switch off the people picker by clicking on the double arrow above and to the right. After doing that the "Suggested People" dropdown will disappear and you'll be able to enter any legal email, even external ones.

I DON'T remember doing that before. But that fixed it. Hooray! 😄 Oh my goodness, I was feeling like a crazy person. lol 

 

That's so weird.

It has to be in Advanced mode first, type in address and then hit the arrows to go to "basic mode" and then it works.

If you type it in during "basic mode" and then hit the arrows to "advanced mode" then it doesn't work.

So weird. I'm happy. Thanks so much!!

Is there any work-around for a flow that requires dynamic content for the address? I have a flow with a "For a selected file" trigger, intended to be used to send out a nicely-formatted submittal email to a client when I have new shop drawings uploaded. Since we have dozens (perhaps hundreds) of clients, it's vital that I be able to input a different email for each time I run this flow. I've tried using regular dynamic content, an expression, and every combination I could think of with changing "Advanced" to "Basic" and vice-versa, but nothing is working.

Show your flow and explain the problem.

There really isn't a way to do that using the For a selected file trigger.  Once it triggers there is no way to prompt the user for additional information. You could do it using the manual trigger and add prompts for the file path and the email of the client you want to send it to.

Being able to input data for this particular trigger is not an issue.

I'm currently using a text field to get the email address that the Power-Automated email (a shop drawing transmittal) is being sent to, because using the "Email" input doesn't allow me to send outside the organization.

 

Since the send-to email address is different for every time the flow is run, it has to be a dynamic (user-input when running the flow) field, not a static one. If I try to use "basic mode" in order to avoid the in-organization enforcement, it automatically switches back to "advanced" mode when I enter any dynamic input (expression or variable type, either way).

 

As a result, I had to switch to a regular text field. This works, but then it's on the flow user to make sure the email address is formatted correctly; power automate won't help. This prevents me from deploying this to anyone but myself.
