Flow works in test mode but not in normal mode

I have created a basic flow that sends me an email when someone fills out a forms on the forms app. When in test mode I get the email and it works fine but when I save and exit it stops working. The form still submits but I do not get the email.

Hi @ Jaime,

Could you please share a screenshot of the configuration of your flow?

what is the normal mode that you mentioned?

I have made a test on my side, the flow always work fine and never stops working.

Please check if you have turn off the flow so the flow wouldn't run when a new response is submitted in forms.

Please share more details about the normal mode and your flow so we could provide a proper workaround for you.

Hi Alice,

The normal mode I mean is just normal opperation. When I set it up I tried a test in test mode and it worked so I saved and exited thinking it would continue to work but then it didnt send me an email when a new form was submitted. I am unsure how to add a photo into this chat box so I cannot show you the flow however it does say it is active and it is the pre-built flow called 'Send an Outlook email for each Microsoft Forms survey response". The connections are through OUTLOOK and FORMS and both connections are working fine.

Is there any other infomration I can provide that may assist?

Hi @ Jaime,

Please see the run history of the flow when a response is submited.

If a response is submited, the flow would run and have the run history as below:

Also please make sure you have submit the response to a same form as the form in the trigger of the flow.

I didn't use the solution so I cannot confirm it works but the flow did start working the next day. I feel it may have just needed time to get started. The solution may have worked but I did not use it.

I am in the same situation. The flow works in test mode, but failing in normal operations. How did you fix your issue?

Hi Silva,

I just waited until the next day and it worked. Looks like it just needed some time.

i wait for an hour to receive the email.
any way that can speed it up?
assume it can be done timely?
like when i click teat run, i can receive email immediately

Hi Silva. Did your workflow started working? I face the same situation . Flow runs in test perfectly doesn't run in operation mode. Please let me know what's your outcome
Frequent Visitor

Apparently mine got fixed as simply doing nothing.

um.. yes, just wait and will send the email after 30 mins time haha

Problem solved.

It's the template setting makes the delay.

One of my friend suggested another way of setting and it works!

  • Press New to create a flow, choose “auto – from blank”
  • At trigger, search for forms, and choose “when a new response is submitted”
  • Choose your form, and then add next step
  • Search for forms, and choose “get response details”
  • Fill in the form ID and content as get response
  • Then add another step
  • Search for “send an email” under office 365 outlook
  • Fill in the details

The finish should be like this.  See if you are OK.  Thanks.

I literally created an account and signed in just to tell you to thank you for this. Appreciate the people who find the solutions and actually come back to help. MUCH appreciated!

Hi all. I have a really really simple flow that works when testing but never seems to trigger when I'm executing outside of test. I also cannot trigger if I test manually.

When a File is created in Folder - Create List Item and add attachment. It worked fine and then one day it just stopped. MS support has been "assessing" my issue for a month. Does anyone have any idea why these flows are so glitchy? My issue is baffling support. And as I read, I do see a lot of other people having issues with Flows. Any thoughts anyone?

Hi - I am having a similar problem. I created a very simple flow where when a file is created in OneDrive an email is sent to 2 individuals. The flow works in test but doesn't get triggered. It is On.

New Member

I have the same issue: Flow works well in test mode but not in normal mode. During normal mode - flow is running but some steps are missing and when I check the run history it is stuck in Create and approval flow.

I have a very similar situation to the one described above.
My flow is to save an attachment from an incoming email to a sharepoint destination.
The thing is I have 5 of these (built on the exact same template). 4 out of 5 works like a charm daily (and one of them 3 times daily). But ONE flow just refuse to trigger.

As the cases above it works perfectly when doing a manual test.
But then next day nothing. No error. Just no trigger.
I have waited several days (even weeks) and it does not change anything.

I have again used one of the functioning flows as template and recreated it (with a new flow name) just changing the email subject and the location for the file. And again same result. Works in testing but not in the day to day.
It is almost driving me crazy. Especially since I am SUPER happy with all my working flows since it saves me so much time daily.
See my flow below.

Anyone that can suggest something.

Same issue and I have waited a day for the issue to resolve itself, besides that tactic is there another.

I just reviewed this @HenriktheSwede My workflow is even simpler than yours.  I am simply waiting for an email to come in to a particular email address and I create a text file of the email body.   Can't be simpler.

I actually had a running Power Automate and I simply changed the 'To' email address.

A little more information...   I ran a test using the Manual selection and it ran great, but I didn't like the filename format, so I made a minor change.    From that point on, I could not run a manual test as it never triggers.  I could, however, use the automated test my workflow is perfect.

I know this isn't any help just yet, but promise to continue to research and get back on this thread and post when I figure it out.

September User Group Success Story: Reading Dynamics 365 & Power Platform User Group

The Reading Dynamics 365 and Power Platform User Group is a community-driven initiative that started in September 2022. It has quickly earned recognition for its enthusiastic leadership and resilience in the face of challenges. With a focus on promoting learning and networking among professionals in the Dynamics 365 and Power Platform ecosystem, the group has grown steadily and gained a reputation for its commitment to its members!   The group, which had its inaugural event in January 2023 at the Microsoft UK Headquarters in Reading, has since organized three successful gatherings, including a recent social lunch. They maintain a regular schedule of four events per year, each attended by an average of 20-25 enthusiastic participants who enjoy engaging talks and, of course, pizza.   The Reading User Group's presence is primarily spread through LinkedIn and Meetup, with the support of the wider community. This thriving community is managed by a dedicated team consisting of Fraser Dear, Tim Leung, and Andrew Bibby, who serves as the main point of contact for the UK Dynamics 365 and Power Platform User Groups.   Andrew Bibby, an active figure in the Dynamics 365 and Power Platform community, nominated this group due to his admiration for the Reading UK User Group's efforts. He emphasized their remarkable enthusiasm and success in running the group, noting that they navigated challenges such as finding venues with resilience and smiles on their faces. Despite being a relatively new group with 20-30 members, they have managed to achieve high attendance at their meetings.   The group's journey began when Fraser Dear moved to the Reading area and realized the absence of a user group catering to professionals in the Dynamics 365 and Power Platform space. He reached out to Andrew, who provided valuable guidance and support, allowing the Reading User Group to officially join the UK Dynamics 365 and Power Platform User Groups community.   One of the group's notable achievements was overcoming the challenge of finding a suitable venue. Initially, their "home" was the Microsoft UK HQ in Reading. However, due to office closures, they had to seek a new location with limited time. Fortunately, a connection with Stephanie Stacey from Microsoft led them to Reading College and its Institute of Technology. The college generously offered them event space and support, forging a mutually beneficial partnership where the group promotes the Institute and encourages its members to support the next generation of IT professionals.   With the dedication of its leadership team, the Reading Dynamics 365 and Power Platform User Group is poised to continue growing and thriving! Their story exemplifies the power of community-driven initiatives and the positive impact they can have on professional development and networking in the tech industry. As they move forward with their upcoming events and collaborations with Reading College, the group is likely to remain a valuable resource for professionals in the Reading area and beyond.
