Out of call volume quota

Hi MS Community world,

 

I have a flow to register 650 users to a Team using a csv file. It has managed to enrol about 330 of these but then timed out. I extended the run time timeout delay to 1 Day, but now I get the following...

 

Out of call volume quota. Quota will be replenished in 00:15:12.

 

An Internet search seems to indicate this is because of 'throttling' imposed by MS due to use of non premium connectors, a limit restricting 300 calls per hour. This might explain why I can't add more than half the users.

 

I'm thinking I will have to divide the csv file and run the flow twice. Does anyone know of a more elegant solution other than running the flow twice or upgrading to Premium?

 

Your guidance would be appreciated.

It might not be so elegant however, I think that it's more elegant that splitting it into 2. 

 

You could just add a delay? If you have an apply to each loop then add a delay into the loop so that it doesn't churn through so many at once?

Thankyou for your thoughts. Would you be able to provide some code or point me to where I can get further guidance on delays.

 

On a side note to do with the same flow...

 

In the end I had to split the csv 4 ways. 2 batches of approx. 300 and a third with 52, which kept failing in part. Ironically the last 52 proved more troublesome than the other 2. I learned that when PA produces a salmon pink banner with a message to the effect that the flow failed, doesn't  necessarily mean every loop or iteration failed.

 

I ended up with a final csv with 6 users.  Again PA said it failed. Only when I opened the flow afterwards I noticed the option to click "Next failed run". This sent me to 2 users out of the 6 that failed to respond to the call. Following further investigation with our IT dept., turns out one of these was disabled on O365, but not the other.

 

Is it possible that the one that wasn't disabled somehow got caught with the disabled one since it was in an adjacent row in the table?

It's hard to say why it failed without seeing the data/flow but I doubt that it failed due to data in a different row.

 

I haven't seen any guidance as such for the delay but I'm sure a google search will come up with something. I had a flow which was processing too fast (I was updating data in an Excel workbook using Power Automate Desktop and then triggering a cloud flow but the data wasn't updating in the cloud before the flow was running) so I did a search in the actions to see if I could implement a delay and found one.

The salmon pick banner that you mention usually relates to a timeout, you can extend the time out on certain actions (the ones that will time out and be the cause of the banner) by clicking in the 3 dots at the top right of an action and clicking Settings

Then, if the action can time out, there is a section called time out

This is where you will add the maximum duration before it times out. I usually just put P1D which means a day but I'm lazy and haven't tried to find out what sort of times I should be putting in there 😀 It works for my flows anyway. You will need to do this in each action that can time out to prevent the flow timing out, they usually appear in things like Get Items and List Rows but I honestly don't know which ones they do appear in and which ones they don't (I don't think they appear in a Compose action) but I'm sure there will be some guidance on this somewhere too 😂

Yes I am aware of the P1D, and did implement it so it's still a bit of a head scratcher to me how the 'magic' of the flow operates sometimes. Thumbs up all the same...

Thanks also for the pointer on the Delay. I can't test it now because the job is done.  For the last two users (the disabled one and the adjacent one) I manually added. The one that wasn't disabled but the Flow wouldn't work, Teams would let me add manually. Not so the disabled one, that is until she had been enabled. 

 

Here's a question, have you seen any workarounds to remove users using Automate? It's one thing to enrol 652 users on Teams. It's entirely different thing to remove them?

No, I'm afraid I haven't. The whole adding / removing users isn't something that I have got to work on yet. I was under the impression that an app needed to be created in Azure but I haven't really looked into it to be confident advising anyone

We cover basics about the Community, provide a few "insider tips" to make your experience even better, and share best practices gleaned from our most active community members and Super Users.   With so many new Community members joining us each week, we'll also review a few of our "best practices" so you know just "how" the Community works, so make sure to watch the News & Announcements each week for the latest and greatest Tuesday Tips!   This Week: All About Subscriptions & Notifications We don't want you to a miss a thing in the Community! The best way to make sure you know what's going on in the News & Announcements, to blogs you follow, or forums and galleries you're interested in is to subscribe! These subscriptions ensure you receive automated messages about the most recent posts and replies. Even better, there are multiple ways you can subscribe to content and boards in the community! (Please note: if you have created an AAD (Azure Active Directory) account you won't be able to receive e-mail notifications.)   Subscribing to a Category  When you're looking at the entire category, select from the Options drop down and choose Subscribe.     You can then choose to Subscribe to all of the boards or select only the boards you want to receive notifications. When you're satisfied with your choices, click Save.     Subscribing to a Topic You can also subscribe to a single topic by clicking Subscribe from the Options drop down menu, while you are viewing the topic or in the General board overview, respectively.     Subscribing to a Label Find the labels at the bottom left of a post.From a particular post with a label, click on the label to filter by that label. This opens a window containing a list of posts with the label you have selected. Click Subscribe.     Note: You can only subscribe to a label at the board level. If you subscribe to a label named 'Copilot' at board #1, it will not automatically subscribe you to an identically named label at board #2. You will have to subscribe twice, once at each board.   Bookmarks Just like you can subscribe to topics and categories, you can also bookmark topics and boards from the same menus! Simply go to the Topic Options drop down menu to bookmark a topic or the Options drop down to bookmark a board. The difference between subscribing and bookmarking is that subscriptions provide you with notifications, whereas bookmarks provide you a static way of easily accessing your favorite boards from the My subscriptions area.   Managing & Viewing Your Subscriptions & Bookmarks To manage your subscriptions, click on your avatar and select My subscriptions from the drop-down menu.     From the Subscriptions & Notifications tab, you can manage your subscriptions, including your e-mail subscription options, your bookmarks, your notification settings, and your email notification format.     You can see a list of all your subscriptions and bookmarks and choose which ones to delete, either individually or in bulk, by checking multiple boxes.     A Note on Following Friends on Mobile Adding someone as a friend or selecting Follow in the mobile view does not allow you to subscribe to their activity feed. You will merely be able to see your friends’ biography, other personal information, or online status, and send messages more quickly by choosing who to send the message to from a list, as opposed to having to search by username.
