Triggered email does not pull in list column content correctly

I have created a flow that will trigger an email to send when a Share Point list item is updated. Some will include an attachment and some will not. The body of email is the content from one of the list item columns. When there is not an attachment the email will prefill with the correct information and send without any issues.

The issue I have is when there is an attachment included it does not pull in the content from the list item for the body of the email initially. It will only pull in the attachment. After some testing I found if that list item is updated a second time then it will pull in that field and the attachment. However most cases there is not a need to update the list item a second time. I am trying to find a way that it will both include the attachment and the content for the body at the same time.

Re: Triggered email does not pull in list column content correctly

Hi @MelG ,

It seems that you are trying to send an email with attachments from SharePoint list when the list item is updated.

I have made a flow to reproduce, however, the issue you mentioned that “when an attachment included it doesn’t pull in the content from the list item” could not be reproduced by me.

It is configured likes below. whenever the item is modified, it pulls in the content from the list item for the body though with an attachment included.

Please share a full screenshot of the flow to help reproduce.

Best regards,

Mabel

Re: Triggered email does not pull in list column content correctly

My flow has two seperate conditions - one if the list item has an attachment and the status is equal to "Reply" and another if the list item does not have an attachment and the status is equal to "Reply." I am having a problem with condition 1 with the attachment.

Condition 1

Condition 1.1.pngCondtion 1Condition 1.2.pngCondition 1Condition 1.3.pngCondition 1

The description field is what I cannot get to pull in the same time I add an attachment. It is an open text field. All other fields such as the name, email pull in just fine.

If I were to go back to the list item and edit it a second time with a new desciption it will then send an email with the updated description and the original attachment.

Condition 2 seems to work just fine and has the same email just no attachment.....

Re: Triggered email does not pull in list column content correctly

Hi @MelG ,

Thanks for updating.

From your description, the Description field is a field of type Text. So I have created a similar flow for this issue to get the description (type: single line of text) when an item is created/modified with an attachment.

The description field could be returned whenever the flow is triggered.

Re: Triggered email does not pull in list column content correctly

Since the Description field is essentially an email a single line or text would not be sufficient as there can be paragraphs at times. It would need to remain as a multiple line or text field.  Since it works just fine when no attachment is included it appears to be more of an issue with the timing of the attachment being added, Status being changed to "Reply" and the "Description" field being keyed.

For example, I can add the attachment to the list item and close it. Then if it is reopened and I update the "Description" and have the status marked as "Reply" it will send with the most recent Description pulling into the email and the attachment included.

Is there a way that you can drag and drop an attachment from the below view to avoid the need to edit the list item mentioned in my example above multiple times to get the needed result?
