how do I validate a column which is empty or not using condition connector ?

Hello All,

There's problem in my flow.

Whenever an item is created or modified, It has to check for a condition and then send an email. The condition check here is with the state of the item created on SharePoint online.

1. When the state is not ' Closed ' , It should trigger an email for item created.

2. When the state is ' Closed ' , It should again check if " Closure Summary " text box is empty or not.

i. If it's empty, then it should send an email to the person who modified this item to update the closure summary.

ii. If it's not empty, then a communication email should be sent to team.

Below is what I have configured. The first condition and the 'If no' condition are working fine. But, the ' If yes ' condition which again has a conditional validation is failing to work. The condition is not passing.

How do I check If there's data entered into a particular column or not ?

I tried using " @empty(string(triggerBody()?['Closure Summary'])) " and " @if(empty(triggerBody()?['Closure Summary']),True,False) " but both didn't work.

Please help.

Thanks

Hi @Jack23,

Could you please show a bit more about your SharePoint list?

I think there is something wrong with the formula that you provided within your Condition 2 box. I have made a test on my side and please take a try with th following workaround:

  • Add a "When an item is created or modified" trigger.
  • Add a Condition, left input box set to State dynamic content, right input box set to Closed. Within middle drop down, choose is equal to.
  • Within "If/no" branch of Condition, add a "Send an email" action.
  • Within "If/yes" branch of Condition, add a "Condition 2", click "Edit in advanced mode", type the following formula:
  • @empty(triggerBody()?['Closure_x0020_Summary'])
Within "If/yes" branch of Condition 2, add a "Send an email 2" action, send email to the modifier to update the Closure Summary column.
  • Within "If/no" branch of Condition 2, add a "Send an email 3" action, send communication email to team.

The flow works successfully as below:10.JPG

Hi @v-xida-msft

Thanks for responding to the query. Appreciate your help.

I tired including the condition what you mentioned in your reply but the flow isn't getting submitted. It throws an error " some of the connections are not authorized yet ". Below is the snapshot for reference.

Thanks

Hi @Jack23,

The error message told that some connections are not authorized within your flow, please consider take a try to fix the issue with the following article:

Authentication failures

Please find the connectors with authentication error and update the connection to the connector. Then run the flow and check if the issue is solved on your side.

Best regards,

Kris

Hi @v-xida-msft

There was just authentication issue and I fixed it. But still there seems to be an issue in passing the Condition 2 statement in the flow. Below is the snapshot for reference.

Column 'Closure Summary" configuration.

Hi @Jack23,

I think it is not an issue with Condition 2, according to the screenshot that you provided, I know that your flow ran successfully. Is it true?

The run history of your flow indicates that the result your Condition 1 evaluates is false, so the flow goes into "If/no" branch of Condition 1. Because of this, your Condition 2 would not be executed.

If you want the flow goes into "If/yes" branch of Condition, please make sure that the result your Condition 1 evaluates is truePlease check if the State dynamic content of the trigger is equal to Closed which you mentioned.

Best regards,

Kris

Hi @v-xida-msft,

Yup!, I made sure this time the condition evaluates to TRUE and now the flow is working fine.

Perfect solution 🙂

Thanks a ton.

As you have seen earlier, I only have an issue in removing the extra tab on the left of the choice value [Defect(s) ] I use in the flow.

If you can figure that out, Please help me.
