In this video Veronica shows us the top best practices for app design that supports adoption and usability. This app showcases the top 3 recommendations:

    1. Design with the most used device for your app in mind. Remember that although 1 app will work on all formats, there are things to consider when using a phone over using a Surface Hub as the device for your app. Think carefully about the format that will be used most often for your consumers.
    2. Sketch your design firstly. Simply sketching out your design using paper and pen (without the distraction of the technologies in the way) will allow you to work through how the app should flow from screen to screen, and to plan how controls will be laid out. Ask for feedback from a few people using the paper sketch (or a simple PowerPoint sketch) before starting the actual app build.
    3. Remember design Best Practices:
      • Check your colors for accessibility. The Contrast Analyzer utility can help you with this.

      • Keep font sizes appropriate to the device.
        • Never below 8 points for tablet / desktop / hub apps
        • Never below 12 points for mobile apps designed for phone devices
      • Control consistency and alignment - Use relative formatting to move controls and align controls as a group. See this video for tips in this area:

        • Relative Positioning Part 2 here

We'll be publishing more webinars on this topic soon. Each webinar will highlight 3 best practices related to UX/UI that anyone can leverage to make their apps more attractive. Looking forward to the next event with you!

    Happy PowerApping,

    Audrie
