Using Flow to Create Item with Yes/No Column from Microsoft Forms

Hi,

I have created a microsoft form that has multiple choice and yes/no questions. I have figured out how to get the multiple choice answers to display on the sharepoint item that is created, however, I cannot figure out how to do it for the Yes/No column.

The column in the screenshot is "Secondary Contact?"

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Sorry my bad I had a mistake in the syntax, your if statement should look like

if(equals(outputs('Get_response_details')?['r621fe34a011f4e09bef71a009a7f238c'],'Yes'),true,false)
Best regards,

Hello,

You can just put in the expression tab true or false like that

Hi,

Thank you for responding! Will this solution account for whether the form responder answers yes or no to the question? because I want their answer to be correctly reported in the sharepoint list.

Yes definitivly you can check what the responder answered and then update the sharepoint list with true or false accordingly

Hi,

So my issue is that I want the flow to automatically pull the responder's response from the form and update the specific column with yes or no based on their answer. I do not want to manually update the sharepoint item, if possible. Currently, every column is doing that except for the yes or no column.

Yes you can definitively update automatically in the field of the sharepoint list that you want to update can you use and expression with an if statement that looks like that

if(outputs('Get_response_details')?['body/r3b3d3574f01445d08267ac38ba79b8a2'],'yes',true)
with outputs('Get_response_details')?['body/r3b3d3574f01445d08267ac38ba79b8a2'] the get response item that correspond to your Yes/No question

I keep getting an error that the expression is not valid. Am I going into the create item action > Secondary Contact? (name of the column in question) > and then typing the expression there?

Sorry, I have attached the exact error it is giving me to this response.

This is the expression I put there:

if(outputs('Get_response_details')?['r621fe34a011f4e09bef71a009a7f238c'],'yes',true)Screen Shot 2022-01-11 at 6.47.58 PM.png

Hi @alaabitar ,

I'm encountering the same problem, but can't seem to make your solution work for me! No doubt I'm missing something obvious.

I'm trying to do the same thing with a form that asks the respondent if they give permission for their name to be publicly displayed next to an idea they've submitted. If they answer yes, I want the SharePoint list Y/N field to update to "Yes". Currently, the syntax I'm employing (based on the original solution) is:

if(equals(outputs('Get_response_details')?['Are you happy for your name to be displayed next to your idea on the Ideas Dashboard?'],'Yes'),true,false)

But even when the respondent selects "Yes" as their answer on the form, the flow is providing a "False" return. Any idea where I'm going wrong?!

Hello @JTA88 ,

Can you put in a variable the value of outputs('Get_response_details')?['Are you happy for your name to be displayed next to your idea on the Ideas Dashboard?'] and show me what is set in that variable so we can check why it is not working ?

Best regards,

Alaa

Hi,

I need assistance with my flow for a yes or no Column, not sure how to go on about it.

Thanks for this. Sorry for the delayed response! Switched jobs, so no longer an issue for me. (Just a whole bunch of others now...)

I have the same issue as the original topic, I made a form with a certain question with 2 choices. Choice 1 "No follow-up required" response is supposed to show as "Yes" in the dedicated yes/no column (with No as default). Chatgpt and all forums I could find combined were not even able to help me. I don't want to use a workaround by changing the column type to choice or text.

Things i tried:

Expression in create item field "if(equals(outputs('Get_response_details')?['r837124ff1c1d4c3380095568af540ed5'],'No follow-up required'),true,false)"

I also tried a condition after creating the item with [question value] is equal to "No follow-up required". For If yes and no i added the update item action and for each I then selected the desired yes/no value from the dropdown menu at the empty field.

From the test logs I discovered that the methods partially work because the question value is able to change to true and false. Somehow the sharepoint list does not know what to do with the true/false response and ignores it, giving me the default "No".

How do I fix this?

Since I was having the same problem as everyone else, I wanted to share the solution. The code is missing a word:

"if(equals(outputs('Get_response_details')?['body/r837124ff1c1d4c3380095568af540ed5'],'No follow-up required'),true,false)"

This lets the flow know which part of the outputs from Get Response Details to reference for the bits that follow.

For credit where due, I found this on the thread: Solved: MS Forms Yes/No choice value to SharePoint list - Power Platform Community (microsoft.com)

This is the closest to a correct answer I've seen so far, However, I've still been unable to get it to work. would you be able to share a screenshot of your automation if you still have it 6 months later?

Absolutely, it's a flow that gets used repeatedly every day. It's very involved, so I'm not sure exactly which parts you want to see. I've give you the overview and the relevant section - let me know if you want to see anything else expanded.

I put the code in the Notes so you can see what the field looks like. Let me know what I can do to help.
