How to filter a dropdown based on Label value

I have 2 screens in my PowerApps Application. Screen 1 is the landing page and Screen 2 is a form the user will submit.

Screen 1: Has 2 buttons, CommRequest & SalesRequest. Clicking on both these will take me to Screen2 which has a form.

Screen 2: In my form, I have a label where I need to get the value of the button that was clicked on Screen 1. Example: If CommRequest button was clicked, the Label should say "Communications Request". Similarly, if SalesRequest is clicked the label in screen 2 should be "Sales Request".

In the form, I have a Request Category dropdown that stores both CommRequest & SalesRequest options. Based on the value displayed in my Label I need to filter my DropDown to split my request category.

Data from my source: Choices([@'Requests_Master'].RequestCategory) is a Multi Select Choice Column in SharePoint. To Submit my form I am using the Patch Statement.

Please let me know how I can achieve this. Thank you.

@Prithvi ,

I am not sure how I was supposed to know that before - this should do it

With(
   {_Data: Choices([@Requests_Master].RequestCategory)},
   If(
      gblRequest = "CR",
      FirstN(
         _Data,
         5
      ),
      LastN(
         _Data,
         5
      )
   )
)

@Prithvi ,

You are going to need to do it with a Variable - so at Screen OnVisible

UpdateContext({varReset: false});
UpdateContext({varReset: true});

and the Reset on your control

varReset

Hi @Prithvi ,

Firstly you could use a Variable - on the OnSelect (before the existing code) put

Set(
   gblRequest,
   Self.Text
)

but I do not quite understand where you have a Combo Box with the Items

Choices([@'Requests_Master'].RequestCategory)

how you want to  Based on the value displayed in my Label I need to filter my DropDown to split my request category as this will only show one item. If you want to set the default to the selected button, you can do this on the DefaultSelectedItems

{Value: gblRequest}

@WarrenBelz : Thank you for your response.

In my screen 2 I have a form, that has a Request Category dropdown, that gets data from my SharePoint List (Choices([@'Requests_Master'].RequestCategory). If I click on CommRequest in Screen 1, then in screen 2 the RequestCategory, should show only the options for CommRequest.

Hope I am clear.

@Prithvi ,

That is what you posted initially - where are the "options" going to come from  that match CommRequest ? Choices() is a list of single values, so only one will match any particular value.

I will be able to select Multiple Choices from the dropdown since I have enabled "Allow Multiple Selection"

This is what I did and it seems to work. Please suggest if it is right or if I need to change anything. In my SharePoint List, I added CR / MR before the request types so I could use it to filter the dropdown.

Screen 1 Button:

Navigate('Screen2, ScreenTransition.Fade, {ButtonType: "CommRequest"})

Screen2 Form:

Items Property of my Dropdown (DataCardValue20_1)

Filter(
    Choices([@Requests_Master].RequestCategory),
    StartsWith(
        Value,
        If(
            ButtonType = "CommRequest",
            "CR",
            "MR"
        )
    )
)

@Prithvi ,

This is what I have been trying to ask - you had not mentioned you wanted CR and MR which were are the start of the options (I was assuming you wanted the whole value). You could also use a Variable on the Button clicks

Set(
   gblRequest,
   "CR"
)

and MR on the other one then

Filter(
    Choices([@Requests_Master].RequestCategory),
    StartsWith(
        Value,
        gblRequest
    )
)

My apologies. Since I was unable to figure out how to get the whole value, I used CR/MR in the SharePoint list and did the Filter. Could you show me how to get the whole value (without using CR/MR)

@Prithvi ,

Then back to my question - I cannot see your data so can only rely on what you tell me. You have a value that you need to match with a list of items - these items are all single values that you want to match another value with. So asking the question another way, what relationship does does the single value have to the Items ? I can understand the StartsWith() concept you posted - you will get any items starting with that, but if it is a complete match, you are only going to get one item (so back to my first post where you can set the default to it).

I have a request category choice column in SharePoint that has 10 different types of requests. If in screen 1 I choose CommRequest button then my request category dropdown in my form in screen 2 should show only Request Type 1-5. If it’s SalesRequest then requests 6-10 should be shown. Hope I answered your question.
