I would like to Create Sharing Link for file or folder in SharePoint with block download !!!

====> How to use Block Download option to create sharing link in SharePoint !! <====

Dear Community,

This is Saddam here.

I'm a new user of Microsoft Power Automate. I your support to build a flow for Create custom sharing link for file in SharePoint.

Everything is in shape, but I don't the option to block the download of file. If anybody is expert on it please help me.

Create Sharing Link for File in SharePoint.png

Hi @saddam24k,

No built-in way to do this yet. I don't know about 3rd party connectors, maybe one offers the option.

But if you want to do it with no additional fee, you'll have to go through API call.

I tested and it worked:

SamLed_0-1708884784037.png

This is a sharing link to a file that belongs to "Documents" library of my test site. Scope=1 and anonymous=false because I didn't open my tenant to external users, only members of my organization can use this link, and those who don't already have permissions to that library can only view file (no download).

What do you mean exactly for block the download?

If you are searching for a way to limit who can download the file, you can set a correct Link scope in order to limit the audience who can download/see your file.

Hi @saddam24k,

Ok, the Power Automate action doesn't provide this option, so you'll have to go through API call, this is a newer feature and neither Power Automate nor the Graph API documentation is up to date on this. But it seems possible since SharePoint Online and OneDrive offer it.

So I went to see the HTTP requests made by OneDrive using the Edge dev tools. I created 2 sharing links:

  • First one, anyone with the link can view but can't download:

SamLed_1-1708880475905.png

  • Second one, anyone with the link can view and can download:

SamLed_2-1708880801457.png

API info:

Endpoint: _api/web/Lists('List ID')/GetItemById('Item ID')/ShareLink

Method: POST

Headers:

{

"Accept":"application/json;odata=verbose",

"Content-Type":"application/json;odata=verbose"

}

Body of first request:

SamLed_3-1708881062898.png

Body of second request:

SamLed_5-1708881519087.png

So as you can see with differences highlighted, you should be able to create no download links using "linktype":6 and "role":7.

I would like to create custom sharing link with enabling this block download option. so people can see only. they can't be able to download

I already have option to give view only. but i also need to block the download option so that they download it.

@saddam24k, read my answer...

Dear SamLed,

Thank you for sharing your idea.

Yes, I saw this way already in the community. but for this case i need to make http request. but i thought there is already build-in way to do it.

Dear Samled,

Thanks again. and sure i will make it as accepted solution.

But I would like to make it for anyone who has this link. no other validation required.

So for this case what will be the other changes could you please guide me?

Dear @SamLed

I need your help also to make trigger .

I would like make a trigger when a docx file is created under in specific folder. But file will be created under subfolder of that specific folder. for example:

1. I have one folder call "QMS Documents" in my sharepoint site.

2. I will create 3 folders under that "QMS Documents" folder.

3. then, I will create a file under this 3 subfolders

Now I would like get file path and file Id when a file is created there.

Could you please help me on it?

Hi @saddam24k,

To get a link for "anyone who has the link can view but can't download" use this request body:

{
	"request":{
		"createLink":true,
		"settings":{
			"allowAnonymousAccess":true,
			"trackLinkUsers":false,
			"linkKind":6,
			"expiration":null,
			"role":7,
			"restrictShareMembership":false,
			"updatePassword":false,
			"password":"",
			"scope":0,
			"nav":""
		}
	}
}

For OneDrive, no additional settings is required any external user access is already allowed. But for SharePoint site, you have to be sure that sharing settings are configured the same way in central admin:

SamLed_3-1708888796471.png

[EDIT] Warning! this is an anonymous settings, that's allow any site member to share any document or folder to anyone outside your organization.

About trigger question, you can use "When a file is created (properties only)", specify "QMS Documents" folder, any file uploaded or created under that folder or under its sub folders will trigger your flow:

To illustrate, I've got a "Folder 1" folder in my "Documents" library with an "Archive" sub folder. I set up my trigger that way:

SamLed_0-1708889193089.png

On file upload into "Archive" folder, here what I've got in my trigger outputs:
