Office JS error : cannot run Excel script from power automate but works from Excel

HI

As the subject, I wrote a script  below

function main(workbook: ExcelScript.Workbook) {

  let selectedSheet = workbook.getActiveWorksheet("ELE");
  selectedSheet.getRange("B3").copyFrom(selectedSheet.getRange("B3:J74"),ExcelScript.RangeCopyType.values, falsefalse);
}
it works well in the excel (through Office 365), but cannot work from power automate.  The error message is
We were unable to run the script. Please try again.
"Office JS error: Line 4: Range copyFrom: There was an internal error while processing the request."

The purpose of this script as follows :
Data from Worksheet"ELE' is pulled out from another worksheet (raw_data) by using vlookup function.  In order to convert this excel file to PDF by Power Automate, I have to delete the worksheet (raw_data).  Before I delete the worksheet (raw_data), I have to change the data in Worksheet 'ELE' which are pulled out from Vlookup function to actual values.  That is the reason why I used 'copyForm' on the same worksheet.

Could anyone suggest any solution ?

Thanks

Instead of:

let selectedSheet = workbook.getActiveWorksheet("ELE");

Can you try this?

let selectedSheet = workbook.getWorksheet("ELE");

If this still doesn't solve the problem, can you share your clientRequestId so we can further troubleshoot? Yu can find it from the run history of your flow (you may need to expand the Run script action).

i have similar problem but with another example:
Error: Office JS: Line 4: PivotTable removeDataHierarchy: There was an internal error while processing the request.

with:

function main(workbook: ExcelScript.Workbook) {
	let pivotTable1 = workbook.getPivotTable("PivotTable1");
	// Remove pivot field from a hierarchy in pivotTable1
	pivotTable1.removeDataHierarchy(pivotTable1.getDataHierarchy("Liczba PSD "));
}

any ideas?

and an additional question: is there any chance to refresh PivotTable with PowerBI (dataset) as a source with Sripts?
Doesn't work for me.

@ThunderDub

To further troubleshoot the error you were seeing, can you share the clientRequestId? You can find it in the flow run history (you may need to expand the Run script block).

Regarding data refresh, unfortunately it's indeed not supported yet when running in Power Automate: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/office/dev/scripts/testing/power-automate-troubleshooting#data-refr...

@ThunderDub -

Based on the logs on our side, there seemed to be a "RefreshPivotTable" operation that caused your script to fail (as I mentioned in my last reply refresh is currently not supported when running in Power Automate).

Since your script doesn't explicitly refresh the pivot table, I'd assume it was probably somehow implicitly invoked by those pivot table operations in your script.

yup, it's a pivot table based on PowerBI dataset, so any change of shape equals refreshing...

still don't get why it works just via script and doesn't work via script started by flow 🙂

Sorry for the confusion here! Office Scripts is still a very new feature, and dependencies are still being built to support it. Running it in the cloud in an unattended fashion (e.g., running in Power Automate) may pose even bigger challenges to us since many existing assumptions won't apply any more. We have been actively working with our partner teams to close all the gaps. The ability to refresh data connections has been one of the top items on our list.

Thanks for your patience!

Hi the issue was resolved. pls ignore this post.

 Can report that workbook NamedItem is resulting in a 504, although it may have worked fine previously.

function main(workbook: ExcelScript.Workbook) {

	// Construct talble reference
	const tabletest = workbook.getLastWorksheet().getTables()[0].getName() + "[#All]";

	// Get existing defined named reference
//	Push table into tableNames
	console.log(tabletest)
	console.log(workbook.getNamedItem('Files3d').getName());
	console.log(workbook.getNamedItem('Files3d').getWorksheet());

	let tableNames = workbook.getNamedItem('Files3d').getFormula().split("(")[2].split(")")[0].split(",");

	console.log(tableNames)
	tableNames.push(tabletest);

//	Set defined name with new formula

	workbook.getNamedItem('Files3d').setFormula('=DROP(HSTACK(' + tableNames.toString() + '),,1)')

}

Hi , could you please have a look at my script too? i mean when i run it manually in excel it works, but when i execute it during a flow , the following error is returned

"We were unable to run the script. Please try again.\nRuntime error: Line 38: Cannot read properties of undefined (reading 'getRange')\r\nclientRequestId: 479c647f-df3b-42fb-94ce-8cee0a5ab6c8"

@Anonmous_AC

Do you have any part of the script referencing an Active Worksheet/Cell or something similar?

Any references to an Active Worksheet/Cell/Table will need to be made explicit using the Worksheet/Cell/Table name to run it from a flow where there is not an active user with a workbook sheet open or with a cell selected.

    // Set format for range AC:AC on selectedSheet
    selectedSheet.getRange("AC:AC").setNumberFormatLocal("h:mm");
}
help please

@DavidAston

You and likely others have references to an Active Worksheet when you need to make that reference the worksheet by name...
let selectedSheet = workbook.getActiveWorksheet("Page 1")

Should be
let selectedSheet = workbook.getWorksheet("InsertWorkSheetName");
