Can I do this? Just create a relationship between two tables without manually entering ID in each line?

Hi guys, this should be a pretty basic thing, but I can't find out how to do it.

Can we create a relationship (1-to-many) from Table A (Orders) to Table B (Feedback) based on a field? Like a 'regular' database mapping?

Not talking about building a column with LOOKUP, where the user has to manually search the line he wants. 

 I'd like to bring in a View of Table A the 'Sales Person' from Table B for that particular line. 

Table A: Orders:

Order ID	Amount
123	1.000
456	2.000

Table B: Order Feedback:

Order ID	Sales Person
123	Jim
456	Andy

The LOOKUP is technically done because the Order ID values match, right?

Hi @AliceW,

To create any relationship, you'll need to use a Lookup. It will always use the unique identifier (GUID) of the related record and show the primary name column of that record when displaying it in the UI. You can't force a proper relationship any other way.

You don't have to replicate the Order ID across tables. You can reference the related Order record and its columns (e..g. Order ID) from a View or quick view form if you need to easily access.

HI @ChrisPiasecki ,

Hear me out. I open the View of the Orders table. I see two lines: Order 123 and Order 456.

I click on Order 123 and I see its Form. Now, in order for me to see that Jim was involved (the info in the second table), I'd have to click on a field somewhere and LOOKUP the Order ID, right? 

I don't want that...

Please help! Getting desperate...

Hi @AliceW,

So in your example above, you want to see all the related feedback records and information such as sales person for an order? If you want to view child records on your order form. You can add a subgrid to show the related records and select a view that has all the columns you need in that context. You don't need to click away at that point.

I think the Subgrid is based on the two Order IDs being linked, and I have to link them manually in the form, don't I? Please tell me I'm wrong 🙂

Hi @AliceW,

Yes you do need to link the records at some point. You can click into a Lookup and search for it, or if you click the +New button from a subgrid from Order form, then it will automatically populate the Lookup because its within the context of that record, so you'd save some clicks there.
