Model Driven App JavaScript function to populate related form field

Hello guys,

I have a function that opens a new form in a centered dialog. However i'm trying to add more functionality to it by passing the parent record "Training" to the new Extra Cost I am adding to that Training. As you can see in screenshot below. I would like "Extra Kost Training" field to be filled in by parameter passed in JScript.

This is my JScript atm. (not working)

    var selected = executionContext.getFormContext();
    var parentId = selected.getId();
    var parentName = selected.getAttribute.parentName();

    var dataDefault =
    {
        "cref8_opleiding": parentId,
        "cref8_opleidingname": parentName,
        "cref8_opleiding_cref8_extrakost@odata.bind": "/cref8_opleidingen(" + parentId + ")",

    };

    var pageInput = {
        pageType: "entityrecord",
        entityName: "cref8_extrakost",
        formType: 2,
        data: dataDefault,
    }

    var navigationOptions = {
        target: 2,
        width: { value: 50, unit: "%" },
        position: 1
    };
    Xrm.Navigation.navigateTo(pageInput, navigationOptions).then(
        function success() {},
        function error() {}
        );

Anthony

Hi @Anthony_Dob ,

Try below code. It works on my instance.

function OpenEmployee(executionContext)
{
var formContext = executionContext;
    var parentId = formContext.data.entity.getId();
	parentId=parentId.replace('{','').replace('}','');
    var parentName = formContext.data.entity.getPrimaryAttributeValue();

    var extraqs = {};
    extraqs["msft_emergencycontact"] = parentId;
    extraqs["msft_emergencycontactname"] = parentName;

    var pageInput = {
        pageType: "entityrecord",
        entityName: "msft_employee",
        formType: 2,
        data: extraqs,
    }

    var navigationOptions = {
        target: 2,
        width: { value: 50, unit: "%" },
        position: 1
    };
    Xrm.Navigation.navigateTo(pageInput, navigationOptions).then(
        function success() {},
        function error() {}
        );
}

Replace below field schema name with your lookup field

extraqs["msft_emergencycontact"] = parentId;
extraqs["msft_emergencycontactname"] = parentName;

Hello @Anthony_Dob,

Hope you are doing good, you can try below code

var selected = executionContext.getFormContext();
var parentId = selected.getId();
var parentName = selected.getAttribute.parentName();

var dataDefault =
{
    entityType: parentName,
    id: parentId,
    name: parentName
};

var pageInput = {
    pageType: "entityrecord",
    entityName: "cref8_extrakost",
    formType: 2,
    //ENTITY RELATIONSHIP TO BE SET
    createFromEntity: dataDefault,
    // PARAMETER TO BE PASSED
    data: {
        dummyParameter: "dummyValues"
    }
}

var navigationOptions = {
    target: 2,
    width: { value: 50, unit: "%" },
    position: 1
};
Xrm.Navigation.navigateTo(pageInput, navigationOptions).then(
    function success() { },
    function error() { }
);

var dataDefault =
{
entityType: parentName,
id: parentId,
name: parentName
};

Above line for Setting Link between Entites

createFromEntity: dataDefault,

its for setting default values

data: {
dummyParameter: "dummyValues"
}

Data As a Parameter we can Pass

Retrieving Parameter Data From Data Values from Script

function onLoad(executionContext){
var formContext = executionContext.getFormContext();
var xrmObjectParameter = formContext.context.getQueryStringParameters();
if (xrmObjectParameter["dummyParameter"] != null) {
    var dummyValues = xrmObjectParameter["dummyParameter"].toString();
}}

Hello @rampprakash ,

I tried your code but the form is not opening/no errors are happening.

Also this bit of code:

function onLoad(executionContext){
var formContext = executionContext.getFormContext();
var xrmObjectParameter = formContext.context.getQueryStringParameters();
if (xrmObjectParameter["dummyParameter"] != null) {
    var dummyValues = xrmObjectParameter["dummyParameter"].toString();
}}

Should this be added to the JScript?

This is how i have the button set up:

I have no experience at all in JScript.

Best Regards,

Happy holidays

@Anthony_Dob

I am trying to replicate on my side but need to confirm my understanding , on the Extra Kost record you have a lookup column to the Training table and you need to auto-populate it is my understanding correct?

hi @Mira_Ghaly ,

Yes that is correct.

@Anthony_Dob

Can I ask why you would like to use the Navigate To , is there any specific requirement for this ?

A simpler approach is to add a Subgrid on the Training form that points to the Extra Cost with the option to show only related records

Mira_Ghaly_0-1640674970988.png

This would be simpler OTB approach without bothering to write JavaScript , Let me know if this works for you , otherwise will try to replicate at my side.

@Mira_Ghaly ,

That is what I currently have. I have a subgrid "Extra Kosts" on my training form. When I use the default button "Add new Extra Kost", by default it will navigate to the Extra Kost form page. I changed this behaviour by making the "new Extra Kost form" pop up as a modal dialog in the center of the screen. This way users don't have to navigate away from the parent "Training record" page. Also with the center dialog I can add a "Cursists Subgrid" to it so I can directly allocate the Extra Costs (which can't be done with the quick form in the side panel).

This said, if I would go with default behaviour the "Extra Kost Training" field would be autopopulated on the Extra Kost form. With the centered dialog form I would like to replicate this behaviour. It is not really a must have but in my opinion would make a better UX for the people using the app.

I now have the Navigate to function because i'm really new to JScript in PowerApps and it's the only thing that worked for me now.

Best regards,

Anthony

        entityName: "msft_employee",
