VA Translation

Posted on by

I want to use Virtual agent with a language that is not supported.

It´s not even in the list here:

https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/power-platform-release-plan/2020wave1/power-virtual-agents/support-additional-languages

As I see it I have 2 options.

Approach 1 is to put MsBotFramework infront of the VA to do the translation - which then can send the message in English to the VA.

Approach 2 is it manage everything inside VA, but for EVERY step in the conversation I need to use Power Automate which can send the message to an AzureFunction which can do the translation for me back to English.

Benefit with approach 2 is that I still can use the webchat client - which has much better design than the client in BotFramework. Another benefit is that after a few years when my language becomes available, it´s a quite small job to remove it and start using the native translation functionality.

Benefit with approach 1 is that it might be a cleaner approach. But drawback is that is that is quite complicated to pass the messages like this and requires quite a lot of code.

Anyone how have any input here or better ideas? Thanks a lot! 🙂

@Renato thanks so much for this.

I am using Power automate and Ms Translator to get translation from QnA maker and works like magic. The content from the QnA is translated in various languages without having to create different KB's.

Here is the video i used ;https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lay54_r9gxo

However,i have not managed to get the content in PVA translated.Highlighted in Yellow in my attached translation.Translate in PVA.PNG

    Any steer to this?

    Re: VA Translation

I can imagine that it would be easier if MS implemented this for us (using the Bing Translate service) and offer this option to people who want to use languages that are not supported natively. You could call it "lite language support" or something like that..

And also think that is there microsoft services are for every other language site like the canoe surfer. Is this is equally beneficial for other language sites as well?

hi @Anonymous  as @renatoromao  says you can use congnitive services in power automate to transtale what you need.

Here you have a video about that https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cbA3evrknGQ

    Hi @Anonymous ,

You can create a Translate workflow inside the Power Automate that receives the message and return the message, and inside the Power Automate, use the Microsoft Translator connector.

    https://flow.microsoft.com/en-us/connectors/shared_microsofttranslator/microsoft-translator/

If you are using the Bot Framework you will don't use a lot of requests than Power Automate, but it is more difficult to do because you need to implement some codes.

    Hi @Anonymous ,

You already can use LUIS connecting with Power Automate, don`t need to implement LUIS inside the PVA.

I am researching this as well. I see a lot of benefits in using Power Virtual Agents vs. standard bot framework for my business case. Sadly Dutch is also not planned next wave.

I have also proposed and idea to allow us to bring our existing LUIS models into PVA, that might also be a solution for this: (not sure though)
