How to Save Barcode image from SharePoint list item?

I have a SharePoint Online list which has barcodes enabled.

I'm trying to build a flow which will copy the barcode image from a particular list item (eg. List item with ID=2), and save the barcode image as a .Gif picture file on OneDrive.

I've tried the SharePoint - Get Item Action, but it returns a barcode URL of the image, not the binary content of the barcode image.. so I'm struggling to Save it as a .Gif picture

How do I do this?

here is where i got to with my Flow... still not making any progress.

the 'SharePoint - Get Item' action is returning the List Item with ID # 2, and it is returning the URL where the barcode preview exists:

"OData__dlc_BarcodePreview""https://<tenant>.sharepoint.com/sites/SPOTrain/sandpit/TestingSubsite1/_layouts/15/barcodeimagefromitem.aspx?ID=2&list=94ce2749-f1bd-4472-ae39-8ac04c266c56",

at the 'Initialise Variable' step, i'm trying to convert the barcode image into a string URI, so that i can save it into an HTML file, and then convert the HTML file to PDF.

there is a problem at the 'Initialise Variable' step though... as it converts the URL into a URI (ie. https://<tenant>.sharepoint.com/sites/SPOTrain/sandpit/TestingSubsite1/_layouts/15/barcodeimagefromitem.aspx?ID=2&list=94ce2749-f1bd-4472-ae39-8ac04c266c56") not the actual .GIF picture of the barcode itself 😧

Towards the end of the night, i added the 'SharePoint - Send an HTTP Request to sharePoint' action, to try and GET download a .GIF copy of the barcode first, then save that into the variable... but i couldnt get this to work either.

the barcode preview column itself, appears to be a Picture column.

if you put an Image control into PowerApps, and put the URL into it, then the barcode renders, but i couldnt find a way to convert it into a URI within Powerapps either.

any idea's how i can go future?

Hi @Cam,

Have you tried the dynamic content barcode value in the action set variable?

Please also try to use WDL conversion functions in your flow to see if it will work:

https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/logic-apps/workflow-definition-language-functions-reference#c...

I will help confirm it on my side either.

Hello Mabel,

"Have you tried the dynamic content barcode value in the action set variable?"

i've tried both barcode value, and barcode preview.

Barcode Value returns the barcode number (eg. 101060123123)

Barcode Preview returns the URL to the barcode image (eg. https://<tenant>.sharepoint.com/<site>/_layouts/15/barcodeimagefromitem.aspx?ID=2&list=94ce2749-f1bd-4472-ae39-8ac04c266c56)

"Please also try to use WDL conversion functions in your flow to see if it will work:"

i've tried dataUri and uriComponent and base64

but i'm unsure how to properly apply these functions

how would i apply these formulas to be able to create a URI of the barcode image?

it feels like im missing a step in the Flow.

BarcodePreview stores the URL, of where a preview of the barcode can be seen (pic below)... but it feels like there should be an additional step in the flow which "goes to the URL, and Downloads a binary/uri copy of the barcode image"

below is how i would perform the steps i want the Flow to do.... if i were performing the steps manually myself.

I would navigate to the barcodepreview URL in my browser, then it would renders the barcode imagebarcode URL 1.PNG

Next i could right click the image, select download image, and save it to my pc.

barcode URL, save the barcode image.PNG

i'm not sure how i would achieve this second (download a copy of the image) step in Flow

any idea's?

Did you manage to find a solution to this problem?

I am experiencing the same issue and would appreciate if you could let me know how you got this working.

I'm also looking for a solution to this.

I was unsuccessful in Power Automate.

The reason I was interested, was because I wanted to use the barcode in Power Apps... Now there is an option to generate barcodes in Power Apps by using components!

There is a pre-built barcode component that you can import from Github

Hello,

I have the Barcode Generator component added to my powerapp but how did you finally get it to save as image?
