Need Assistance with a Flow - MS List to Planner

Hi All.. Looking for guidance on creating a task to Planner from an MS List.  I'd like to have the task created in Planner ONLY when the column named "Send to Planner" shows Yes.  I've been researching and can't seem to find something as such.

So far my flow looks like this.. i think im pretty off. lol.  Any guidance is greatly appreciated.

The easiest way to do the logic for the trigger condition is to temporarily add a filter array action right after the trigger. It uses the same logic. Ignore the from line and fill in the logic conditions. Make sure you use the Send to Planner Value and not Send to Planner. Also make sure the value you put in is exactly the same as the choice in the list. Once you do that click on the Edit in advanced mode link.

When you switch to advanced mode it will show you the actual logic value that you need for the trigger condition.

image.png

In the example I built its:  Yours should be similar.

@equals(triggerOutputs()?['body/SendtoPlanner/Value'], 'Yes')

Once you copy the logic into the trigger condition make sure you delete the filter array.

Instead of using the For a Selected Item trigger I would use the When an item is created or modified trigger with a trigger condition to only start the flow if Send to planner is yes.  Here's a good article on trigger conditions. (3) Power Automate Trigger Conditions made EASY - Power Platform Community (microsoft.com)

Appreciate @Pstork1 for the conditions article.  So this is what my flow looks like now and i added the trigger condition.  I try to run it as a test and it just cycles..no fail or success.  Any thoughts or additional feedback again is greatly appreciated.

If you want to test it you need to start it to Test in Power Automate and then go to the list and add a new item. Add one with the field set to no and one with the field set to yes. The flow should only run when the field is set to Yes. Make sure the Choice field values use the same case as the trigger condition.

Thanks for your response @Pstork1 .. I selected Test or Power Automate, added an entry with the Yes in that specific column labeled Planner, but nothing is happening.  It's just cycling.  I have the message "Your flow is ready to go..."  Any thoughts what's making it not run through?

That would suggest there is something wrong with the trigger condition that you are using. Try the flow without the trigger condition and see if it creates a task whenever you create a new item. If it does I'll talk you through how to do the trigger condition using a filter array action to get the function.  Is the "Send to Planner" column a choice field, a Yes/no field or soemthing else?

Hi Pstork1, i removed the trigger condition and tested it.  The run failed and i get an error message at the Planner - Create a Task step.  It now says Schema validation has failed. Validation for field 'Assignments', on entity 'Task' has failed: The assignee id is invalid."  I'm not sure where i went wrong but will play with it some more.  And yes, the column labeled "Planner" is a choice for Yes/No

It looks like you are using a people column for the assigned to. I think when creating the planner you need to use just the email address, not the whole people object. There should be a specific dynamic content for the Assigned to Email in the list.

I switched to use email address and i think that by passed the Create a Task part.. now it's editing at the Update Task Details..

RoddyRod_0-1711570963748.png

Unable to process template language expressions in action 'Update_task_details' inputs at line '0' and column '0': 'The template language expression 'outputs('Create_a_task')?['body/id']' cannot be evaluated because property 'body/id' cannot be selected. Array elements can only be selected using an integer index. Please see https://aka.ms/logicexpressions for usage details.'.  Doing some googling, i saw a user added this step so she could add the item details from her MS List to the Description section in the Planner..

i did remove the Update Task Details and it runs successfully!  But would like to add the trigger only if YES is added in the Planner column.

Hi @Pstork1 I was able to get the flow for the item description in MS List to transfer over to the task description in Planner.  Can you assist me with creating the trigger function to perform this only when the Yes is selected in the Planner column in the MS List?  Yes, that column is a choice.  Truly appreciate it!

The filter array is just used to get the appropriate logic statement to add to the trigger condition. Once you do that you need to delete the filter array. I mentioned that in the last line of my response.
