User rights to update accounts but, NOT de-activate them

Author Name: Robert BOYERS

It would be good if security roles had 2 extra columns to control the 'actvate' and 'de-activate' functions for each entity. Currenty, the ability to activate and de-activate is ties to the write privilege, however, we have had several users ask for the ability to restrict the de-activation / re-activation of records but still allow the user to perform updates to other fields.

Hi Rob, Internally, I'm resolving this suggestion as a duplicate of another suggestion which we have already moved to our main database. The other suggestion is interested in de-activate, but activate is also part of the larger picture we are considering. The link to the duplicate bug is: https://connect.microsoft.com/dynamicssuggestions/feedback/details/664672/user-rights-to-update-acco... Please add your vote to that suggestion so we can keep the prioritization up-to-date. you could solve this today, by the following steps: 1. create an entity: PrivDeactivate 2. adding an additional Display Rule - "Priv Entity" for this new entity on the application ribbon for deactivate and activate button. 3. add in the security roles this Entity regards

Thanks Matthias, this should probably be posted in the workarounds tab. It is still a common requirement to control the activate/de-activate buttons, so I think my suggestion would be a useful addition to have new privileges to cover this in the regular security role config. A 'normal' customer administrator would probably struggle/not typically be familiar with adding display rules. Thanks
