Assign tags to created task from form submission

Hello all, I'm trying to automatically add pre-defined tags that I have in my planner to tasks that are created based on a form users fill out.

I want to have a question that asks what system the request is for on the form, then have the tags applied based on thier choice. I don't know if it needs to be a "choice" or a "list" in the form. And so far I haven't been able to figure it out. In the "create task" flow, the colors are listed, but I don't know how I'd go about referencing the specific information from my form to trigger the tag being added. Up until now, it was simple to specify certain fields to populate certain pieces of information in the task.

I've seen similar questions online but couldn't get the implementation to quite work. Is this even possible?

It's been a while since I've had to add tags to a planner task, but if I remember it correctly you have to do the following:

1. Inside a planner task you can change the names of the tags, but you have to remember which color you change to what name

2. Inside the form you create a choice-list so the fields given are always spelled the same

3. In Power Automate "Create a task" at the "Tag" fields you have to create a expression -> Choose "Enter custom value"

4. In every tag color you have a name assigned to, you have to create the same expression, but only the formula with a different "true" parameter.

Example of expression:

if(equals(outputs('Get_response_details_2')?['body/responder'],'Choice1'),true,'')

outputs('Get_response_details_2')?['body/responder']  --> Dynamic value from the form.

              When typing your expression and you have to input the dynamic value from the form, you can switch back to the dynamic value -> search for the value with the choice list -> select it

Choice1   -->   this is text which must be the same as the as the input from the choice list. 

true --> is the value it returns when the if statement is true, when false it will place nothing ('')

So when the IF statement is true, then the formula return the boolean, true.

If the field where the expression is inserted contains, true, then the color label will be shown (with your custom name).

Copy the formula/expression and paste it in the other color tags. Change the check parameter 'Choice1' to the other options from that choice list etc.

So I'm running into a problem as I tried to add my others this morning. I added my first one that was "choice 1" using your steps, and input "system 1" and it works perfectly fine. When I create a task choosing system 1 in the list, it creates the task, and adds the correct tag, in this case, the yellow one, with the correct name.

If I try and copy the expression and simply replace "system 1" with any of the other system, in their colors, it errors out. I even tried re-writing the expression and choosing the dynamic object again, but no luck. Am I missing something on what I need to change from the first expression working solo, to when I add in the other 5 choices?

It looks like it doesn't like the fact that the first choice is empty when I select the second choice, or vice versa, I'm getting Error details: Input parameter 'body/appliedCategories/category3' is required to be of type 'Boolean'. The runtime value '""' to be converted doesn't have the expected format 'Boolean'. When I run it as one, it's fine, but if I have expressions in two colors it errors on me.

Can you screenshot or copy the expression you use?

Then I'll be able to check whether it is okay.

Then please try this:

if(equals(outputs('Get_response_details_2')?['body/responder'],'Choice1'),true,false)

Where if the statement is false, it returns the value false

This solved the problem. No issues with 2 colors in the task, and it returns the appropriate tag regardless of which I choose now. Thanks for the super fast response and working through it with me. Not my wheelhouse, lol
