Parse JSON error

Hi All,

I have a flow that looks at each id of a SharePoint list and looks for comment in the "AdditionalComments" column and uses a Parse JSON but the Parse is failing with this error.

I have 'null' in my Parse as you will see at the end of the message.

@jbrines  sorry overlooked your expression, need to remove outputs('Compose') from the expression, so it will be as follows

concat(variables('AppendComment'),'<div style="margin-bottom:5px;">',items('Apply_to_each')['Author']['LookupValue'],' (<span style="color: rgb(3, 131, 135)">','</span>)',': ',items('Apply_to_each')[variables('ColumnName')],'</div>')

Hi @jbrines,

It looks like you have a list item were the additionalcomments field is empty.

I would use a condition action within the apply to each to check if the field is empty. Below example is only checking the field for the last version of the item btw.

empty(outputs('Parse_JSON')?['body']['d']['results']?[0]?['AdditionalComments'])

Happy to help out! 🙂

@jbrines  are you using Parse Json to get value from Send HTTP request to SharePoint action? If yes, then you dont need parse json, you can simple configure the apply to each action as follows:

annajhaveri_0-1613489226811.png

Expression for apply to each

body('Send_an_HTTP_request_to_SharePoint')['d']['results']

Expression for getting value of column inside apply to each. Please replace FileLeafRef, with your column name.

items('Apply_to_each')?['FileLeafRef']

@jbrines , if you look at my response on this post, that should help you, you can skip using parse json.

@jbrines  i am sorry not being specific here, replace GetVersion_2 with your action name in the expression so that will be "Send_an_HTTP_request_to_SharePoint" in your flow.

@annajhaveri

Hi Anna,

The flow is working but it is only bringing the last comments instead of all the comment history.

John

@jbrines  can you check in sharepoint list, that how many versions are created for that specific item and how many versions are fetched in the Send an HTTP request action and compare it that gets all the versions of the item or not?

Anna Jhaveri

@annajhaveri

It appears to be bringing all 31 versions in the http request. So does this mean when I use the powerapp it will display this? If yes then I need to get the http/text part working as pressing the button doesn't bring anything back but the flow is successful.

@jbrines can you provide your flow screenshot, i want to understand what you are doing after the Send Http action? You need to use Respond to power app or flow action to send data back to PowerApp

Anna Jhaveri

@annajhaveri See below.

Parse Error7.JPG

Set Variable Formula

concat('<div style="margin-bottom:5px;">',items('Apply_to_each')['Author']['LookupValue'],' (<span style="color: rgb(3, 131, 135)">',outputs('Compose'),'</span>)',': ',items('Apply_to_each')[variables('ColumnName')],'</div>')

@annajhaveri Do you see anything in the above?

annajhaveri

@jbrines , your variable is getting the value reset with each run of the loop, what you need to do it is, in compose action use the below formula. Notice that i used your formula and just added the variable in the beginning.

concat(variables('AppendComment'),'<div style="margin-bottom:5px;">',items('Apply_to_each')['Author']['LookupValue'],' (<span style="color: rgb(3, 131, 135)">',outputs('Compose'),'</span>)',': ',items('Apply_to_each')[variables('ColumnName')],'</div>')

 Now in Set Variable action, instead of using formula, just use output of compose action.

This will concat all the version values.

Anna Jhaveri

@jbrines from error it looks like you are using this expression in set variable action. Please use expression in the compose action, and in set variable just assign output of compose action.

Anna Jhaveri
