web powerapps stopped working

I have been working on apps this morning and testing using web 'Play' - suddenly it has stopped working - this list of apps is vsible, but if I right click on any of the apps (including ones I haven't changed today ) a blank screen opens up (with the background colour of the app, but no content).

I have rebooted the machine (Windows 10) and tried on a different machine but no luck.

Is web play working for others, or has anyone got any ideas as to what has gone wrong?

My team are seeing the same behaviour - we also had this intermittently last week but it resolved itself. Today its been unavialble all day in web player with the Demo Apps showing the same blank screen.

If I try and run them in the Win 10 native player then it works as expected.

Hi all, I also have the same behaviour.

I suspect that there is an upgrade in progress...

Sorry everyone for the inconvenience!

We were able to identify the problem and just pushed a fix out. This should now be fully resolved, and apps should launch successfully again.

If anyone is still seeing this issue, please let us know.

Thanks Ryan,

Now this is out of Beta and a production system shouldn't there be monitoring on the system to identify and alert you to an issue rather rely on users to report the problem?

We lost pretty much a full day yesterday and had similar problems intermittently last week?

I'm not sure if the comments on here propmted someone to look at this, I'm fortunate to have a route through or development partner into the product team so could escalate this.

What can you reassure about future stability?

Hi JonT,

Your concerns are valid, and you are absolutely correct that we should have caught this with automatic monitoring. Additionally, we should have been able to resolve this sooner once it started happening.

To provide some background, we do have automatic monitoring in place to catch issues like these, but it unfortunately didn’t catch this issue in a timely fashion.

Since this was resolved yesterday, we’ve been investigating exactly why our monitoring missed this, and we have shifted gears to prioritize putting additional safeguards and a more robust alerting/mitigating story in place.

Specifically, we are now working on three main fixes that we plan to roll out over the next few weeks:

  1. Alerting on this type of outage – we are fixing up our automatic alerts to detect this issue immediately in the future, so that if it ever crops up again, it will engage our on-call/support staff before it starts affecting users.

  2. Faster mitigation – in the short term, we are adding guidelines for our support staff to manually fix issues like this more quickly, so that the fix will (ideally) take minutes instead of hours. Longer term, we are going to work on trying to have are monitoring system automatically mitigate the issue when it’s detected.

  3. A more preventative fix for the root problem – this core issue was caused by some larger problems with our CDN configuration. We are making some changes to our CDN setup to hopefully guard against this in the future.

Between all three of these, we are hoping to prevent outages like this entirely.

Generally speaking, I can assure you that we take reliability very seriously, and we understand that outages like we saw yesterday are unacceptable. We are constantly working to improve in this area, and we will do everything we can to prevent downtime going forward.

Sorry again for the inconvenience.
