Filter model driven app

Hi All,

I have few questions on model driven app.

I want to know - is there a way using which I can filter model driven app based on logged in user?

below grid based on logged user?

2. Can I add one more button in model driven app?

3. Can we achieve pre population of data? Suppose I have a record already present for the logged in user and if that user is trying to create another record then it should pre populate the value.

4. Can I prepopulate dropdown?

In answer to your questions

1. To filter a list of records by the logged in user, you would create a view in Dataverse.
With a view, you can filter records by the currently logged on user.

2. It is not easy to add buttons to a model driven app. What is it that you want the button to do?

3. You can define a business rule to default a new record to the logged in user. However, it isn't possible to use a business rule to default a value based on the existence of a record that has been allocated to the user

4. Again, to pre-populate drop downs in a simple way, you can define the business rule to do this.

In general, model driven apps are far less customisable compared to canvas apps. If you want to add complex functionality, one way to accomplish this is to build a canvas app which you can then embed into your model driven app.

thank you for the reply.

I have few more questions for model driven app-
1. Suppose I have created a record for contact A and filled some other fields, then again I am creating a new record for contact A only, then all my other fields should get prefilled with the previous values from the 1st record. 

Above requirement you are saying is not possible?

2. How I can filter the latest record created by the logged in user?

3. Suppose I have created a record for contact A and filled some other fields, and did not filled the check out field. Again I am creating a new record for contact A , then it should not allow me to create the record since the last records check out date is not filled. And to create new record I should update that check out date first and create new record for that contact.

4. Is there a way to add a dropdown in a view?

1. In the case of where you want to pre-populate a new record based on a previous record, it isn't possible to do this using business rules, which is the standard 'no-code/low code' method to apply default values.

The way to do this would be to extend your app using JavaScript. You would need to write code that uses the JavaScript client API to retrieve the previous record, and to write code to set the default values. This technique would require JavaScript programming knowledge, and knowledge of the CDS/Dataverse API.

2. A simple way to do this could be to create a view that filters records by the logged in user, and sorts the records by the create date. You could also explore the possibility of using a dashboard to return the record, but there is no straightforward way to do this. It may be possible that users can easily find their latest records anyway, though the "recent records" menu, and the ability for users to pin records to the navigation bar.

3. The answer to this is much the same as the answer to question 1

4. Can you clarify what you mean by this? If you mean, is it possible to define a view that matches records by a related table, it's possible to do this by using the 'add related table' option.

Can you share some link where this kind of things are implemented?

One more question-
Suppose, I have record for contact A then I click on edit button then there I have "+ New" button. If I click that then I can create new record. What I want is - when I click on "+ New" button then the already filled contact which is contact A should be prepopulate.  The field should prefill only when I click on edit and then +new button for some particular record.
So, also we I can achieve by Javascript?

In the example that you mention - that is, to pre-fill a record based on the click of a button, it isn't possible to do this because there's no built-in way to add a button to a form. Therefore, one technique to overcome this would be to build a PCF control for your button, and trigger your script on the click of the button. There are more details about this here.

Is there a way to do it without System columns?

For example I have to find if a Custom Text Column contains the current user full name.

I had to use model driven because of Excel Exporting/Importing Functions
