Hi there,
We are busy trying out the power platform. My client has a request that on certain triggers in D365 we post data to their database. However, to connect to their database, you have to connect to a VPN first.
So our plan is to generate business events and expose that to the power platform.
Now we have to create a connection to the client's database, but that needs to go through a VPN network.
Is there a way to do this through powerapps and or flow?
I don't think either Power Apps or Automate will be able to do this for you. To connect to an on-premises SQL server requires an on-premises data gateway. The data gateway uses an Azure message bus to communicate with Power Apps or Automate to receive queries and return results. I don't see any way to force that communication through a VPN connection. So I don't think its possible.
If your connecting to an Azure SQL server then I think you could potentially do a VPN, but I don't see how you could instantiate it on demand.
Hi there,
In short, I came to the solution. As you stated, a gateway is the answer.
If you install a default gateway on the SQL server where the Database lies, you can connect on the power platform using that gateway. So then the VPN is not necessary.
The first Microsoft-sponsored Power Platform Conference is coming in September. 100+ speakers, 150+ sessions, and what's new and next for Power Platform.
This training provides practical hands-on experience in creating Power Apps solutions in a full-day of instructor-led App creation workshop.
