Modern Library Add Template

Hi,

In a SharePoint Library modern experience you have the ability to add a template as per screen shot. Are these templates accessible via Power Automate in order to create a new document in the library automatically.

Hello,

From a document library you can only edit the property of a document with powerapps so you have no control from powerapp on the type of document created.

I have inspected a couple of HTTP requests via the SharePoint Online interface and the developer toolbar. It looks like it should be possible via a POST request on the DefaultView of the library. You can set this via the SetViewXml method.

Below is small example with xml with only sets one dotx template. It will remove the existing template options.

In this example I have uploaded the dotx first as a regular file. After that I refer to it via the url property in the newdocumenttemplates section of the xml in the body.

I'm not sure if I've explained the scenario correctly. A user has added templates using the modern experience to a library. The user requirement is to auto generate documents  in the library by accessing the existing templates. Not sure if the above covers that

Found another method, the CreateDocumentAndGetEditLink. That one accepts a templateUrl. The response of the request is edit link to the newly created document.

Below is an example which hopefully meets your requirement to create a new document based on an existing template from the new menu 😁

Hi thanks for the help so far........so if my site is https://mytenant.com/teams/spdevelopment should /sites be replaced with /teams ?

Yes, that is correct. In your case that would be /teams/spdevelopment/libraryname.

In my tenant the sites are created under /sites managed path because I use the default site creation settings 😁

Now I need to work out how to get a list of the templates that have been added so a user can choose from a list from PowerApps

Hi @Ianhall1892,

Sorry, my template was hosted in a different location. In your scenario you probably need to add the Forms folder too, that is the default location.

Try something like this:

/teams/spdevelopment/libraryname/Forms/Apps Dev RFC Template.dotx

Hi thanks that's what I did. Do you know if there's an api that's gets a list of those templates that in the form folder ?

You could use a GET request like below.

You might need to filter out some other items with a filter array action after the select though.

And in your case it will be /teams/ instead of /sites/

Hi cheers I've used something similar but the select statement only allows me to select the body of the http request, Its an instant workflow Im testing with

The d and results properties are part of the body. In my example I used an expression in the From field.

Thanks once more how do I get at the name property of the file tried body('GetTemplates')['d']['results']['Name'] but I guess that wont work as its an array of values?

Yes, results is an array. If you want to get the name value of one specific item you could use an index. Item one is [0], two is [1], etc.

For example the name value of the second item would be the following expression:

body('GetTemplates')['d']['results'][1]['Name']
