OneDrive "When file Create" trigger not firing

Hi guys,

I've tried to create a simple flow to alert me when a new file is created in a OneDrive folder, but that trigger is not firing at all. I've created a similar flow using One Drive for Business and it triggered fine.

Is this a known issue, or something that might be wrong on my connection?

Thanks in advance, Wagner.

There was an issue sometime back when OneDrive trigger was failing consistently. But it seems to be working fine now.

Can you please try again and see if it works? If not, could you please share the url when you open the flow in edit mode. The url would look like: https://flow.microsoft.com/manage/flows/de296be3-f98d-4f82-a384-d6f6fd3e2a6b

Hi mate,

I've tried again (I've actually recreated the flow, as I was discussing some other issues with connections before, so I wanted to make sure that this was not a factor). Still no joy. The same trigger works with the OneDrive for Business Connector.

Here is the URL: https://flow.microsoft.com/manage/flows/8ad2a664-ad34-45a9-ba60-b941b6422b00

It is quite a simple flow:

The idea is to sync my own personal cameral roll with the family account, so when I take a new photo it copies it to the family onedrive, and I can remove it from my account keeping the new 5GB limit. But the trigger just don't fire for some reason.

Cheers, Wagner.

@WSilveiraN, it looks like you have not uploaded any files to "/Pictures/Camera Roll" and that is why it appears that the trigger is not firing. Please add a file to the folder "/Pictures/Camera Roll" and check the flow run status. Let me know if that is not the case and / or it still does not work after adding a file to the folder.

Thanks,

Kartik

Hi Kartik,

Sorry, forgot to tell in my last email that yes, I've uploaded a new photo on the folder after I've created the flow, so I could test ir. But just to confirm followed the steps right now:

1) Confirmed that the flow was created.

2) Once flow was up and running, on my device, I took a photo. Device is connected to One Drive to backup images.

3) Confirmed that the photo has been syncrhonized to the one drive folder under Camera Roll.

After that I've monitored Checks, Sucesses and Failures for about 5-10 m and all of the triggers are showing as skipped.

I did the same yesterday, before sending the question. And also did a manual upload (in case the sync case wouldn't count as a create), but in both cases no trigger enabled.

Just to complete my investigation I've created the same scenario on a different one drive connection, but still got the same results.

Any help welcome on this.

Cheers, Wagner.

Hi Wagner,

Sorry to hear that OneDrive flow is not working at all for you.

For your flow (https://flow.microsoft.com/manage/flows/8ad2a664-ad34-45a9-ba60-b941b6422b00), from system logs, the flow started monitoring your folder since "Wed, 08 Jun 2016 02:38:02 GMT" and did not find any new content in it since then. There might be some bugs due to which it is not able to pick up the latest data.

If it is fine with you, to help us debug, could you please send the following information to Kartik.Rao@microsoft.com:

1. When you right click on a file in Onedrive and click on Details, it opens up a Details bar with an Information section. Could you please share the "Modified", "Date Created" and "Path" values for a file in that folder? Or, if you could send a screenshot of just the information section, that would be even better.

2. The timezone that you are in - so that I can convert the above time into GMT.

Once I have the above data, I will loop in a more folks to nail down the bug and we can rollout a fix.

Thanks,

Kartik

I too am having a version of this issue, this time with OneDrive for Business. My flow is intended to send an email with an attachment when a file is added to a specific OD4B folder. I've created two versions of the flow with different triggers. One, when a file is created and the other for when a file is modified.

Sometimes these flows work other times not. The "Modified" flow is more consistent, meaning it works once or twice a week, even though a new file is added daily.

Also the flow as a criteria: the file name contains "call_history". The files are all named call_history_m-dd-yyyy.csv.

Also the Send email action has some details.

But the flow fails at the Trigger. The error is either, "Http request failed: the timeout was reached." or a much more elaborate:

@BEC111, the flow gets executed at a high frequency (unless you have set some delays explicitly), so even though it encounters errors like "Bad Gateway" or Timeout etc, it should run fine in a subsequent execution. If, however, files are added / modified, but the flow does not trigger - this would be a cause of concern. Could you please share the url when you open the flow in edit mode. The url would look like: https://flow.microsoft.com/manage/flows/de296be3-f98d-4f82-a384-d6f6fd3e2a6b. I will loop in the relevant team to investigate further.

It's been a few days, and I'd not heard back. The trigger still fails. In addition to the errors I've shared previously, I've also seen sign-on authorization errors.

Something odd is going on. And this simple flow is all but useless as a tool, though it's interesting to play with.

Follow-up. Because I received an error that the account used for the flow didn't have authorization to access the data, I reset that authentication. I then made a change to the file and the flow worked.

So now, we'll see if it keeps working.

Thanks for your update. cc @kartikraop

Well, it worked yesterday, but today it failed again. This time the error seems to be "Bad Gateway". I reconnected, again and still got that error.

Here's the text from the error.

FWIW, I reset the login again and resaved the file and this time it worked. There are obviously problems on the connections between the Flow servers and our instance of OneDrive: I shouldn't have to reconnect each time we use the flow. 🙂

@BEC111, you would need to reconsent your connection only if the password has changed. Otherwise, you need not reconsent (or reset the login). The bad gateway error, returned by the connector, indicates that there is some issue in the service downstream - in this case, Onedrive apis.

The connector team is working on increasing the reliability of the connector and also working on fixing bugs in the connector itself. Unfortunately, this is taking a little longer in the case of Onedrive connector.

Thanks for confirming my assessment - a problem downstream. FWIW, the flow worked today.

Preview means, "Not quite ready for primetime" and this problem shows how complex what Flow is trying to do actually is

Thanks

Barry

Just an update. Today the flow didn't work.

Even with resetting the account login.

Not fun.

Not sure if this issue has been resolved, but I've tried creating a simple flow that copies a file from OneDrive for Busienss to SharePoint.  What I noticed was that when the Folder is set to the root folder (e.g. /), it fires properly.  However, when I select any of the subfolders, the trigger doesn't fire.

I've tried enclosing the folder names in quotes, but still no luck.  Any thoughts?

Super User of the Month | Ahmed Salih

We're thrilled to announce that Ahmed Salih is our Super User of the Month for April 2024. Ahmed has been one of our most active Super Users this year--in fact, he kicked off the year in our Community with this great video reminder of why being a Super User has been so important to him!   Ahmed is the Senior Power Platform Architect at Saint Jude's Children's Research Hospital in Memphis. He's been a Super User for two seasons and is also a Microsoft MVP! He's celebrating his 3rd year being active in the Community--and he's received more than 500 kudos while authoring nearly 300 solutions. Ahmed's contributions to the Super User in Training program has been invaluable, with his most recent session with SUIT highlighting an incredible amount of best practices and tips that have helped him achieve his success.   Ahmed's infectious enthusiasm and boundless energy are a key reason why so many Community members appreciate how he brings his personality--and expertise--to every interaction. With all the solutions he provides, his willingness to help the Community learn more about Power Platform, and his sheer joy in life, we are pleased to celebrate Ahmed and all his contributions! You can find him in the Community and on LinkedIn. Congratulations, Ahmed--thank you for being a SUPER user!
