Flow to sent out approvals

With the flow I'm working on, i'm trying to send approvals out to several ppl to view a users entries full weeks entries.  For example I've separated the stages from G1, G2, G3 and G4. 1st stage G1 views the submitted entries and approves it, then once it shows on the list it's been approved the next flow takes places for G2 to view and approve till they get to G4. The flow should be that "when a item is created, start and wait for approvals, if G1 is blank and G2 is blank, then the email is sent out for G1 to view the entries and to approve, if it's the case that G2 has been filled then that means there's an error somewhere cause G2 can't be filled till G1 staged is completed). This will go on till G4. I will be creating  separate flows for this to make it easier to maintain.

First flow will be from G1 - G2

2nd Flow: G2 - G3

3rd Flow: G3 - G4

If you want to test for an empty string then type empty() into the Expression bar.  You can't just type the word empty into the cell.  You are testing G1 = "Empty",  rather than G1 = ""

@Pstork1I know what you mean, I've also done that as you can see from the previous replies on the post, I've tried different ways, different expressions and so on but nothing has changed.

This is another one that I've saved;  Basically the same thing, itisn't doing what planned and I'm also not getting any approve/reject emails.

That's essentially the same issue, but now you are testing against "True" (as a string) rather than true() as a boolean value.  Your condition should look something like this, but with your field name instead of title.

@Pstork1I did exactly what you displayed and it still did not work, no emails sent either.

Can you expand the Trigger from the last run so I can see exactly what value is being passed in for G1?

@Pstork1Not quite sure which trigger you are referring to here below is the image of the previous flow.

The When an Item is created trigger.  There is only one trigger in the flow.  I want to see the values and fields being passed to the flow when it starts.  That will tell me what the condition needs to be set to.

@Pstork1I've added the SharePoint list wiith the column as well as the flow trigger which is automated. The update item function and it's values are also in the previous replies

I want to see the output of the trigger in the run so we can see what values are being passed into the flow.  Sometimes when a field is empty Flow doesn't pass it into the Flow as a field.  If its not there in some of the records then you can't use it in a condition. I'm trying to troubleshoot what's actually making it into the flow.  To do that I need to see the actual run, not the list or the definition of the action in the flow.

@Pstork1Okay I get you now, I took some screenshots of the trigger outputs.  I can see from the images that G1-G4 fields aren't shown it. The flow also shows that there was no issue with the trigger input whereas we can see that it does not show G1-G4 fields which is the whole purpose of the flow.

OK, getting closer.  Two things to double check.

1) make sure that the field (G1, etc) is included in the default view so its available when there is a value in it.  You can also test that by putting a value in it when you create a record and then looking at the output from the run to make sure its included.

2) assuming it is included then we have to go back to the condition where the left side is a formula entered throught the Expression bar Empty(G1field) and the right side is true, also endtered through the expression bar.  It should look like this

screenshot.jpg

That condition will fire as True if the G1 field doesn't exist or if the G1 field is empty.  It will be false if G1 contains a value.

@Pstork1  The G1 field is included in the default view, I also tested it by putting a value in it when I created a record. I ran the flow again but it failed so I checked the output of the trigger and the G1-G4 columns were still displayed in the output.

Also did the second part you listed and it failed as well.

Can you show me what the Lefthand side of the condition says in the editor when you hover over it?  The error says you passed it a blank parameter rather than the G1 field.  I tested it on my side and he formulas work if you enter them correctly using the Expression bar and the dynamic data fields.

Hi @Anonymous ,

Could you please take a try to create a new G1 column with single line of text type and then refer my steps to create the flow?

Best regards,

@Pstork1Do you mean the details box on the righthand side; because I can't find the editor even if I hover over the condition

Hi @v-alzhan-msft so I got rid of the columns and started again, I also created another flow and it still does not work.  This time the flow failed instead of running successfully.

Screenshot (91).png

Hi @Anonymous ,

1. The error message said you compare the Boolean with string.

2.png

2. Please refer to the screenshot of flow as below and make sure the empty expression is correct on your side.

1.png

3. if don't work, share the screenshot of your flow and the expression in your flow.

Best regards,

Alice

@v-alzhan-msftI've referred to your screenshots and it ran successfully but it's basically the same issues from yesterday all over again, the columns aren't being updated, I'm not getting any emails sent to approve/reject and also in the get items trigger (image 1)  G1 isn't displayed in it like the other fields, why is that?

Screenshot (92).pngScreenshot (93).pngScreenshot (94).pngScreenshot (95).png

Hi @Anonymous ,

true instead of True.

Please mark the question as solved.
