When a Flow Approval is Reassigned - Update the corresponding sharepoint list field.

Hello everyone! 

I am attempting to create an approval flow that automatically updates Sharepoint document libray fields based on the results of the approval. 

So far I have an approval flow that looks like this: 

1. When a new item is created (Sharepoint document library)

2.Delay (2 minutes- to allow all fields to popualte before referencing them in the next step)

3. Start an approval (This assigns the approval based on a field in the sharepoint list)

4. If Approved/Rejected, update file properties to change the "Status" field of the corresponding file to Approved/Rejected and also update the "Comments" field based on any comments that the approver entered.

This flow works great. However, when an approver REASSIGNS an approval to another user, I would like to update the corresponding Sharepoint field with then new approver's email address. 

Any ideas on this would be greatly appreciated.

Your solution does work to successfully update the approver's email address AFTER the item is either approved or rejected. 

My intent is to use the sharepoint document library as the primary place that the users will go to view and approve documents with Flow adding some extra convenience by allowing users to quickly approve from thier Outlook/Flow mobile app. 

Is there a way for me to have the Sharepoint Item updated before the approval is completed in Flow? Perhaps a parrallel action that checks the current approver every 10 minutes and sends the update to sharepoint? 

Also, If someone changes the "Status" of a document in the sharepoint site from 'pending' to 'approved' - Can I then have the corresponding approval that was started either canceled or updated to reflect the change made in Sharepoint?

Hi @Dusty ,

I am afraid that there is no way to achieve your needs in Microsoft Flow currently.

As you said, you want to get the approver before the approval is completed.

If the approval action not completed, the flow will not continue the below actions.

So you can't update the item.

Is there a way to track the chain of custody of an approval for end users? They need the ability to hound whoever is holding up their process. I'm attempting to create a task list considering we don't have a competent workflow history for the end user to follow the approval. I need the ability to track when an approval is reassigned to someone else the minute it is reassigned.

I am also looking forward to a solution for this.  Either:

A way to update the "assigned to" column after reassignment

An alternate column for "reassigned to"

Or as stated in previous comment a" way to track the chain of custody of an approval for end users? 

We need a way to hold user reassigned to accountable for completing task.  And without that user noted in the list, it is impossible to do this.

Not sure if you are still looking for a solution. Nowadays the approvals (requests & responses) are writen as records within your dataverse envirionment. There is some information that you could use to trigger a cloud flow when a redirect is done.

I didn't have the time yet to check how a redirect is shown in these tables (msdyn_flow_approvalrequest, msdyn_flow_approval, msdyn_flow_approvalresponse)
