Automatic fill of edit box issues.

Hi,

I am currently using the formula "LookUp(Teams,'CRM Owner'=('TDS Barns'.Selected.Barn),'CRM Owner')" to try to auto-fill a field on an edit screen in a canvas app. I have added all the relevant data sources, and the same basic formula, though with different values, works for another field where other data is pulled through automatically.

Any ideas why it doesn't work in here?

Is it because of the type of dat required, the CRM owner maybe an issue?

The error text for the formula reads as follows.

 Error 1. "Name isn't valid"

Error 2.  "Invalid use of '.'

Error 3.  "Invaliud argument type"

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Matty H

Hi @MattyH

What error does it give? Is 'CRM Owner' the correct display name for the Column? Is 'Locations Gallery' the actual name of the Gallery?

Ideally we would use the internal name for the column, ie CRM_x0200_Owner and the Gallery name as suggested by Intellisense so that it would look something like this:

LookUp( Teams, CRM_x0200_Owner=Text(LocationsGallery.Selected.Barn))

or

LookUp( Teams, CRM_x0200_Owner=LocationsGallery.Selected.Barn)

If the column type for 'CRM Owner' is non-text you will run into issues when trying to use a formula like this and may have to use other workarounds - Could you provide the Column Type?

Lastly, are the two types of data being compared the same? (I had assumed they were)

  • Create a textbox, with Text('Locations Gallery'.Selected.Barn)
  • Check manually if this value appears within the 'CRM Owner' column
  • If not, then the argument cannot be processed as you are asking it if apples = cheese

I have managed to solve at least part of it.

The formula was looking in the wrong place, should have been Locations Gallery rather than TDS Barns.

Now only showing 1 error.

The = in the formula is now highlighted as an invalid argument type.

Still no clue on why though.

Hi @MattyH,

Can you share a bit more about your issue?

Can you show me the column type of ‘CRM Owner?

It should be that the type of‘Locations Gallery’.selected. ‘field name’doesn’t match with which of‘CRM Owner’.

You can try to create a collection from ‘Teams  and check what the type ofCRM Ownercolumn produce.

Please make sure that type of‘Locations Gallery.selected. field name’ is consistent with which ofCRM Owner

Hi,

The Lookup Formula doesn't necessarily need a third input:

Lookup( Source, Expression, ... Result )

Could you try:

LookUp( Teams, 'CRM Owner'=‘Locations Gallery’.Selected.Barn)

Thanks,

@iAm_ManCat,

Thanks for the assistance, but your suggested formula does not work either.

@iAm_ManCat

Thanks again for your help, after reading through your message, I think the issue is the Column type. CRM Owner is non-text, so I will need to get this sorted another way.

You have given me another avenue to pursue, so I am grateful to you.
