Disable the Select Item button on a gallery if the current user is not in a Multiple selection Person field in SharePoint

Hi,

I am developing an app which allocates checklist items to people for projects.  We have 2 SharePoint lists, one with the project details and a second list with the related checklist items.  The 'Checklist' list has a 'person or group' field which allows multiple selections as there may be more than 1 person who can complete the checklist item.

I have a screen (below) which shows the details of a selected project and has a gallery showing all the related checklist items.

 

As the logged in user may only need to change some of the checklist items, I have a requirement to disable the button to select a gallery item if the logged in user is NOT in the approvers field for the checklist item.

I've tried various articles and and this video Enable or Disable Controls based on Current User in PowerApps - YouTube but I just can't get it to work.

I have set the 'DisplayMode' for the button as below:

If(LookUp(ThisItem.Approvers,Email = Office365Users.MyProfileV2().mail,Email)=false,DisplayMode.Disabled,DisplayMode.Edit)

I have used labels to confirm that the email values being returned by both parts of the argument are the same.

I've also tried changing the above to use 'DisplayName' in place of email but that doesn't work either.

Is this possible and, if so, what am I missing?

If(Office365Users.MyProfileV2().mail = ThisItem.Approvers, DisplayMode.Edit, DisplayMode.Disabled)

Sorry I miss understood your question, 
Office365Users.MyProfileV2().mail returns only the mail of the user using the application
so the condition will only make the icon editable to his name/email
so if you want to make the icon available to all users in SP you need to collect all the users in the SP list to a collection and make your condition

Hi @OussamaOsman

Unfortunately your first post didn't work. I believe that, because the 'Approvers' field is a multiple selection field rather than only ever having 1 person, that you have to evaluate it differently.

Returning only the mail of the user using the application to only make the icon editable to them is exactly what I need to do and then checking to see if it is one of the names in the approvers field. For example, If I am using the app, I should only be able to click the button to edit a record if my name is one of the names in the 'Approvers' field for the record.  There could be 1 name or 5 names in the approvers field but as long as the user is one of them, the button should be active.

I thought about filtering the gallery by logged in user but the business wants it so that users can see all items in the gallery view, but only edit the one they are assigned to as an approver.

I hope this makes sense.

Yes i realized that and asked you for more details in the second comment.

what I can assume from your last comment that you want to the logged users to see the edit icon if they are the approvers, 
which you have to collect all the items assigned to this user in a collection and make a condition on it

Let's say for example:
I have a data source called "Items" has a key called "ID" and has a lookup column in it named "Approver" Linked to a table of users.

so on the visible of the screen i would say:
ClearCollect(ListOfItemsForThisUser, Filter(Items, Approver.Email=User().Email))
Then you have all the items assigned to this user and you head to the visible property of the icon and write:
If(ThisItem.ID in ListOfItemsForThisUser.ID, true, false)

Thanks for the extra info.  I've tried creating a collection but I can't get the ClearCollect to work.  I have the following:

ClearCollect(ListOfItemsForThisUser, Filter(Gallery3, Label_Approvers_Emails.Text = User().Email))

I've tried using a label with the Users email as a Text value in place of User().Email but i still get syntax errors.

Just to clarify my set up, i have 'Gallery3' which shows all tasks assigned to a project.  The Gallery can have up to 50 tasks.

Each Task in the Gallery has between 1 and 5 approvers in a multi-selection 'person or group' and I show this in the Gallery in 'Label_Approvers_Emails' using Concat(ThisItem.Approvers,Email,"; ")

It is unlikely that all tasks will have the same approvers (some will be technical tasks, others process related), for example, I might be assigned to 10 tasks and Steve might be assigned to 20 tasks.  Of these, we might both be assigned to the same 5 tasks. When I'm using the app, I need to see all the Gallery items but only be able to select the button on the 10 tasks where I am one of the names in the Approvers list.  When Steve is using the app, he should only be able to select the button for the 20 tasks where he is in the Approvers list.

I hope this makes sense, but please let me know if you need me to clarify anything or provide additional information.

I managed to solve this using the following for the 'DisplayMode' value:

If(User().FullName in ShowColumns(ThisItem.Approvers,"DisplayName"),DisplayMode.Edit,DisplayMode.Disabled)
