Displaying data in a table format

Hello PowerApps community,

I wish to display a table based on the response from the PowerFlow in a Canvas app.

Currently, the flow I am using looks like:

The apply to each flow takes parsed JSON data and creates a string of all the ingredients based on an image of the food plate.

Finally the following string is returned to the PowerApp

However what I need is a data table like this shown in the Power app (not excel)

PS: I have tried collections but somehow it did not served my purpose. What do you think is the best way to do this? Also, Can we only return string/Boolean from flow to the powerapps?

First, if you want to display it as a data table in Power Apps then what you should be returning is an array, not a string.  The array can be saved as a collection and the collection can be displayed as the data source in a Power Apps Data table.

Second, To return an array you will need to use the HTTP Response action instead of the Respond to Power Apps.  Respond to Power Apps can only be used to return a single object with multiple properties.  It can't be used to return an array.  There is also no way to take a comma delimited string and turn it into an array or collection once it is returned to Power Apps.

Finally, to do all this you need to initialize an array variable instead of a string and append JSON records of the values you want to return to the array in the Apply to each.  What you append to the array will look like this

However, I am not getting same values in the PowerApps.

There are a couple of things missing.  

1) When you append the record to the array you forgot to include the braces that denote its a JSON record .  Take a look at the code snip I provided.

2) to include a string you'll need to surround the dynamic content in quotes when appending the string.

3) The sample JSON for the HTTP response needs to be an array to generate the right schema.  It should look like this.

The HTTP Response output looks like this (which I assume is okay):

However, the response is still not embedding in the data table. Basically, it is showing me a Boolean value as true.

Item property of DataTable is clarihttp.

If the value being returned is just a boolean then double check that you created a JSON schema in the HTTP response under advanced.  If that schema isn't there or isn't right then the return value is all that you get.  That's the boolean.

You can check what is being returned as data using a monitor session in Power apps.

I'm sorry but I am unable to find the cause. Here is the schema from HTTP response

I clicked on 'Generate from sample' under advanced -? Response Body JSON schema and added the schema you mentioned in your response.

On monitoring the session from power apps, I get this:

So, it seems the response from powerflow is fine but the data-table is still showing the boolean value/ The clarihttp also shows under info: 1 rows collected!

Did you make sure to remove and re-add the flow in Power Apps after making changes?  If you don't it won't pick up the changes properly.  That could also be an issue.

@Pstork1 deleting the flow and re-adding it made it work! Seems like restart is best solution with MS products 😉

Any time you make a change to a flow that is triggered by a Power App you need to remove it from Power apps and re-add it.  Otherwise the power  app won't have the right signature and parameters for the flow.
