Fields are reset in Edit Form

Hi,

I have a quite an irritating issue:

When i edit an entry in my edit form (datasource: sql Azure), the fields which are dropdown items, and being populated from another table, are being reset to the first entry in the database, i.e. ID 1.

Hi Pripri804,

To test this issue, I create an app according to your description. On the EditForm, I change one label to a dropdown control and set its Items property to another table, say “table1”. The app itself based on table “a2”.

Then run the app, I can create new records and save them to “a2” without issues.

However, when I try to edit the existing record, navigate from the detail screen to the edit screen, the dropdown will display the first item on “table1” but not the one I selected before.

I guess that it might be a default behavior. I will try to see if there are any workaround on this issue.

Although I don't have a date for resolution (it is being worked on), here is the workaround I found will work.

Step 1: Select the form control (be sure to select the entire form - not just 1 of the data cards) 
Please select the dropdown or combo control instead

Step 2: Go to the "Item" property of the form

Step 3: Delete Parent.Default

Step 4: Retype Parent.Default

Try again and let me know if that works.

I see my error and edited it in the instructions previous given. However, I was also assuming that the problem of which was selected had to do with the edit form (i.e. something had been selected, that was not showing up in edit mode). If instead your issue is both with the New Form mode and the Edit Form mode showing only the first item in the related table for the default of the dropdown - that is by design. We have gotten some feedback that that is not ideal (form designers may want a blank default value, or a value other than the first in the list to show by default). 

Here are the workarounds I have tried:

1. To get a blank default value: If possible enter "Select One" in the data source used for the drop down as the first choice. This way it will default to Select One and you can use client side data validation to refuse "Select One" as a submission if the field is required.

2. To get a specific value to be the default value it needs to be the first item in the table associated with the choices. If you don't want to do that at the data source, then you can wire the dropdown items yourself (if you do this, changes at the datasource to dropdown properties won't update in your app - so this is not ideal). You could use a collection as the items property of the dropdown in this case. Be sure to put the desired default value as the first item in the collection to ensure it is the default value.

Note that #2 above is only used if the table can't be edited so that the default value is first in the list - and certain data sources may also require more than one property (such as an index number) for submission.

Thanks for your reply. The error is encountered in the edit form, when a previous selection has been made. I have tried your workaround but unfortunately it didn't work. The error is still persisting.
