Filtering a Gallery by another Gallery

Hello everybody,

I would like to be able to manage my customers via an app. For this purpose I have created a data structure in Sharepoint to store certain information of the customer in the app, e.g. customer profile (what is the customer's name, where is his company headquarters, what is the phone number etc.).

Now I have created a screen called "customer view" which displays the Sharepoint lists "customer information" and "customer projects" in a gallery on the screen.

I get to the screen "Customer View" by selecting a customer from the customer list, so I only have one customer in the customer information.

Now my question:

How can I make the Gallery "Customer Projects" filtered on the customer that is stored in "Customer Information" ? So that on the whole screen in 2 gallerys there is only information from one customer?

I am grateful for every answer 🙂

Many greetings
Frederik Rier

Hi @Frederik_Rier ,

Is there a Gallery within your "Customer View" screen to list all available customers?

Is there a LookUp type field in your "Customer Projects" List to reference values from your "customer information" list?

I assume that there is a LookUp type column (called "Customer") in your "Customer Projects" List, to reference values from the "Customer Name" filed in your "customer information" list.

Please set the Items property of the Gallery2 to following:

Filter(
       'Customer Projects',
       Customer.Value = CustomerViewGallery.Selected.'Customer Name'
)

Note: The CustomerViewGallery represents the Gallery in your  "Customer View" screen to list all available customers, you should replace it with actual Gallery control name in your canvas app.

or

Filter(
       'Customer Projects',
       Customer.Value = DataCardValue16.Text // DataCardValue16 represents the Customer Name Text Box in your Customer Detail Form
)

If the Customer column is a Text type column in your "Customer Projects" List, please modify above formula as below:

Filter(
       'Customer Projects',
       Customer = CustomerViewGallery.Selected.'Customer Name'
)

Please follow this:

1. Gallery1 Items to: SharePointList1

2. Filter the Gallery2: Filter(SharePointList2,ID=Gallery1.Selected.ID

3. Note: Replace SharePointList1, SharePointList2, ID and Gallery Names to reflect your actual names

Hi, Eka,

thank you for your quick response.

I once tried to rebuild this from your description. I noticed that the customer information is stored in a form and not in a gallery.

Does this influence your described way ?

I have attached screenshots to you, so that you can see how the screen looks like.

As I have copied it, it does not work unfortunately yet, do you know why?

Many greetings
Frederik Rier

Yes it will affect the formula. Can you restate the objective again. Do you want to filter the gallery based on what is on the form Or you want the information in the Gallery to populate the form

Hallo Eka,

I want to filter the gallery based on the form. I want my " Customer Project" list to show only projects of the currently selected customer.

The sharepoint list "Customer Projects" has projects from many different customers, but only the projects of the customer selected on the previous screen "Customer Overview" should be displayed. This customer is already selected in the "Customer Information" form, so I thought I might apply this value as a filter to the Gallery.

Best Regards

Frederik Rier

Let assume the textbox in your form containing the CustomerDI is TextBox1.

On the Gallery, put this on the Item of the Gallery:

Filter( YourTable, TextBox1.Text in CustomerIDColumnName

If your customer table has space then:

Filter( 'Customer Projects', TextBox1.Text in CustomerIDColumnName)

With this, whatever customer ID you put in Textbox1 will filter the Gallery

Q:
Is there a Gallery within your "Customer View" screen to list all available customers?

A: There is a Gallery (CustomerList) that lists all customers, but it is on the screen that comes before I get to the Customer View screen. From the Gallery (CustomerList) I select the customer for whom I want to see the details on the next screen.

Q:Is there a LookUp type field in your "Customer Projects" list to reference values from your "customer information" list?

A: In Sharepoint I have a LookUp type field in your "Customer Project"-List
(photo)

In general I would like to develop an app that allows us to better manage our customers. The usecase would be: I click on our customers, then I get a customer list with all customers on a new screen. There I choose one and then get to the screen where I get more information about the specific customer:

1. customer information (As a Form)
2. customer projects (As a Gallery)

I have tried all three formulas, but unfortunately I never achieved the desired result

I have attached a picture how the list behaves with the respective formula and how the list looks like without filters.
