Hide Dropdown Fields Based On a Selection.

Hi I have the following Fields Address & Number. The Data is coming from a sharepoint List

knishal_0-1664200836446.png

I would like to show only a few selection from Number when a certain option is selected In address. For example

Address contains of: A,b,c,d,e,f  & Number Consists of: 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8

 If A is selected for address, I want to show 1,3,8 for Number,

If b is selected for address, I want to show 2,3,4

If any other is selected in Address it should show all in number.

How Can I make this possible?

LOL...another typo!

Please scrub through the formulas I provide as I type them by hand without the aide of a design editor - very easy to miss closing parens, commas, etc.

This time, missing a closing parentheses.

Should be:

With({_dataForSecondDD: Choices(AccountCreationList.'Client''s Floor Number:')},
    ForAll(Choices(AccountCreationList.'Client''s Work Address:') As _choice,
        {Value: _choice.Value,
         Items:
             Switch(_choice.Value,
                 "29 Main street", Filter(_dataForSecondDD, Value in "Floor 1 Floor 2 Floor 3"),
                 "60 MainRoad", Filter(_dataForSecondDD, Value in "Floor 2 Floor 3"),
                 _dataForSecondDD
             )
        }
    )
)

Hey @knishal

Use this for above Case:

If(Dropdown3.SelectedText.Value="A",[1,3,8],If(Dropdown3.SelectedText.Value="B",[2,3,4],[1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8]))

Without knowing more about your data connection to your lists...

The general concept is to do your logic in the primary dropdown.  Unlike the video's sited - which kill performance in your app because they make so many data calls, the concept would be such as this:

Your Items property for the address dropdown:

Table(
    {Value: "A", Items: [1,3,8]},
    {Value: "B", Items: [2,3,4]},
    ...etc..
)

Then, the Items property of your Number dropdown simply becomes: yourAddressDropdown.Selected.Items

Quick, simple and less data actions.

I hope this is helpful for you.

Hi @RandyHayes I like this approach.  My Data connection to my list is a SharePoint dropdown. For Address the item property is:

knishal_0-1664203893040.png

Is it possible to modify it so it use both the formula you provided and the sharepoint List dropdown?

For example I can use the formula:

Table(
    {Value: "A", Items: [1,3,8]},
    {Value: "B", Items: [2,3,4]},
    ...etc..
)

 But for the other options It can go to the sharepoint list drop down. Is this Possible?

@knishal

What is the real concept for the second dropdown based on the Choices??

Is that data from your list?

Due to the nature of Choices, you have to add some additional logic in the formula.

So, purely as an example, something like this is needed:

With({_dataForSecondDD: yourDataSourceFilter},
    ForAll(Choices(AccountCreationList.'Client''s Work Address:') As _choice,
        {Value: _choice.Value
         Items:
             Filter(_dataForSecondDD,
                  (_choice.Value = "A" && <criteriaForAChoice>) ||
                  (_choice.Value = "B" && <criteriaForAChoice>) ||
                   !(Choice.Value in "AB"
             )
        }
    )
)

Hi @RandyHayes  the second dropdown is also coming for a sharepoint list:

knishal_0-1664204745320.png

Is that going to change anything?

@knishal

Sure, then just incorporate that in:

With({_dataForSecondDD: Choices(AccountCreationList.'Client''s Floor Number:'},
    ForAll(Choices(AccountCreationList.'Client''s Work Address:') As _choice,
        {Value: _choice.Value
         Items:
             Filter(_dataForSecondDD,
                  (_choice.Value = "A" && <criteriaForAChoice>) ||
                  (_choice.Value = "B" && <criteriaForAChoice>) ||
                   !(Choice.Value in "AB"
             )
        }
    )
)

It's hard to provide more detail on the criteria without knowing that actual data and choices.  But the above can just be altered to what you need.

Thank for that, just a question. What Data do I need to put here: <criteriaForAChoice>

In the Client''s Floor Number it consist of data like: Floor 1, Floor 2, Floor 3, Floor 4 etc. Do I have to put those data there?

The Address field consist of address as: 29 Main street, 60 MainRoad etc

Hey @RandyHayes

What's the difference between your technique and this:

If(Dropdown3.SelectedText.Value="A",[1,3,8],If(Dropdown3.SelectedText.Value="B",[2,3,4],[1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8]))

??

This won't work??

Drop-down 3 will be the address drop down and the above expression will be in the items of Number Drop-down.

@knishal

Yes...it is a little odd to have Choices columns for your specific data.  I am going to assume these must be Lookup columns and not Choice columns!

You should really have another list or way to indicate the floor numbers per address.  Otherwise you will be endlessly having to update your app and formula whenever changes are needed!  It is much easier to do this in a separate list and not in the app!

However, the criteria would be whatever you need.

Taking your little bit of data for example:

With({_dataForSecondDD: Choices(AccountCreationList.'Client''s Floor Number:'},
    ForAll(Choices(AccountCreationList.'Client''s Work Address:') As _choice,
        {Value: _choice.Value
         Items:
             Switch(_choice.Value,
                 "29 Main street", Filter(_dataForSecondDD, Value in "Floor 1 Floor 2 Floor 3"),
                 "60 MainRoad", Filter(_dataForSecondDD, Value in "Floor 2 Floor 3"),
                 _dataForSecondDD
             )
        }
    )
)

Based on your examples, I had changed the formula above with a Switch function.  I don't normally like that in such scenarios, but yours is a little more conducive to it for simplicity.
