Issue with ComboBox when cascading

I have these comboboxes

SPSDEV22_1-1666109264244.png

When I choose Activity > Community Plan

Project combobox  becomes visible.
then when I choose Project 1 then District 1 Project Name combobox opens, along with the Label ( Utilize....)

Here is where the problem is..

if I change the Activity to another item in the combobox

project disappears like it should.  however, district project name, label remain visible.

I need the comboboxes to disappear and reset to blank if the items are not visible. SharePoint saves what values are in the comboboxes even if they are not visible on the form.

I only need them visible when the Activity Dropdown = Community Plan

and the data within actually is selected and visible.  Additional info, there are 8 Projects and to each project has 4 Project names under that. and each one has a Label (Description)

Activity = Community Plan

Code for Project visibility:
If(DataCardValue10.Selected.Value="Community Plan",true,false)

Code for visible Project

If(DataCardValue19.Selected.Value="1",true,false)

label

Code for label Visible:
If(DataCardValue21.Selected.Value="Geographic Deployment",true,false)

how do I get the above code to also clear the items if they are not visible?

if this does not make sense, please let me know.

First, you can save yourself some time by not redundantly specifying the true/false for your Visible properties.

For example:

   DataCardValue10.Selected.Value="Community Plan"

Would be all you need.  It will evaluate to either true or false and that is all you need.

Adding the If/true/false is equivalent to:

   If(true,true,false)

Which is just extra typing and process cycles.

Next, I would recommend resetting your comboboxes when higher level selections are made.

So, add to the OnChange action of the combobox for Activity:  Reset(yourProjectCombobox)

And for the Project Combobox OnChange action: Reset(ProjectNameCombobox)

This will remove prior selections.

I hope this is helpful for you.

Thank you that input.

when I select the Community Plan in the activity dropdown.

nothing shows up when I use:
DataCardValue10.Selected.Value="Community Plan" ( Spelling error, this one is working)

Another question :
how would I get the various labels to switch depending on the Project Name?

I cannot use the OnChange for the Label, how would I get the item to change and disappear when the either the Activity Changes and the project changes?

The formula:

    DataCardValue10.Selected.Value="Community Plan"

Should be on your Visible property of the other controls.

That will work 100% unless the spelling is different.  If the letter-case or spacing is different, it will not.

You can be a little looser with it using the following instead:

    "Community Plan" in DataCardValue10.Selected.Value

What do you mean by getting the labels to switch?

Each Project has a Description for each project.

For example if I select Geographic Deployment

label4: Utilize the Community Action plan shows.

Like it is shown in the first image above.

How can I get the (Label4) to hide.

if I select Project 1

There are 4 Project Names each one of those Project Names, has its own Description

@SPS-DEV-22

Are you "hard writing" all of this into your app??  In other words, you have a combobox that is getting values from your list for the Project Names...where is the Description coming from?  Is the description in the list or are you hand-writing this all into labels?

I'm hardwriting the labels . the labels are description but they are not coming from SharePoint and or any data source.

I'm choosing label from the insert then pasting the label info the text = "  "

the Label actually doesnt disappear if I change the Activity it stays.. if I change the ComboBoxes it will change and diappear. if I leave the Label showing and then change the Activity to something else, the Label doesnt disappear.

the label (Description of Project) Is not "Saved" to the SharePoint list

@SPS-DEV-22

So for your label, I would establish only one label for your description and then introduce (because it is not in your datasource) the description into your records.

Is it the "project" or "district 1 project name" combobox that you want the description to come from?  And what is the Items property of that combobox?

I got the items showing when they should, it is the visible issue.  if I do not close out the comboboxes then the description stays even after changing the Activity.  I change the Activity to something else and then the Description stays.. I need it to disappear also.

here is the "path"
combobox Project:  1> combobox Project Name: Geographic Deployment > Label: Geographic Deployment (Description of this project)

under the combobox Project DatacardValue

items = Choices([@Community].'Project ')

under the combobox Project Name DataCardValue ***

items = Choices([@Community].'x0020_Project_x0020_Name')

*** this triggers the Description based on the Project Name Selected

Just an FYI:

under project 1 there are 4 other project names and each project name has a description.

 I have Project 1 thru 8

 8 Projects with each project having 4 Project Names and 4 Descriptions (which are Labels).

in total 8 Projects > 32 Project Names > 32 Descriptions.

make sense?

@SPS-DEV-22

I guess what I am getting to here is that, you are hard-writing in the description for each choice...so what value does the Choice column provide??  If it was to ever change, you would have to re-write your Descriptions!

My suggestion would be to alter the Items property of the Project Name control to the following:

ForAll(
    Choices([@Community].'x0020_Project_x0020_Name'),
    {Value: Value,
     Description:
         Switch(Value,
             "Geographic Deployment", "Utilize the Community Action Team",
             "Another Project", "Another Description",
             ...etc..
         )
    }
)

Then simply set your Label text property to: yourProjectNameCombobox.Selected.Description

You would only need one label and not have to mess around with a lot of other formulas or Visible properties.  Just keep the label visible.
