LeaveRequest Bugs only for Users

I provide a modified version of the LeaveRequest PowerApp to my colleagues to manage there vacation.

When I test the app inside the deployment environment everything works fine. If colleagues try to use it, the horror begins.

When they open the app an error occurs:

Fehler beim Laden von "ConfigurationCollection". Antwort des Sie haben keine Berechtigung zum Anzeigen dieser Daten.-Servers: Failed to read metadata from file source. Response from the end service is : Forbidden clientRequestId: 8fe94f48-9882-41bf-a66c-c21cce0cbd13 serviceRequestId: 8fe94f48-9882-41bf-a66c-c21cce0cbd13;8fe94f48-9882-41bf-a66c-c21cce0cbd13

most likely they have no access to the data.xlsx which is stored in my OneDrive. So what is the beste practice here?

Start screen:

click Login as a manager screen: Same screen but labels totally destroyed:

After that, a lot of Labels looks busted like that:

I could reproduce all these errors with a test account. With my development account there none of these.

Sadly, using PowerApps is very unsatisfactory and it is hard to recommend it for my colleagues.

Hope for help.

Hi @Nusserdt, when it comes to best practice for storing data shared with Power Apps, Excel + your OneDrive probably isn't top of the list to be honest.  It's fine for doing some early testing, but once your in full on Production, you need to be using a proper database. Easiest route in is using SharePoint lists, but others will swear by CDS or SQL.  It just depends based on your experience and the licenses in your co.

Re: Labels wrapping / not displaying as you see them.  I'd always recommend leaving a few pixels as a buffer in any label.  When you squeeze it to the minimum width for you, it won't take very much for it to not display correctly for others. E.g. the variability in Screen size, resolution, scaling, widescreens etc.  Power Apps does a lot to ensure that the ux is the same for everyone, so also be sure to check that the Screen Settings (File > Settings > Screen Size + orientation) of your app and ensure that all the toggles here are on.

Hope this helps.

@NMCLEOD thanks a lot for you answer. I will check out the alternatives to OneDrive. But to the Label wrapping subject it is a bit different. What I observe here, is that the application have a different behavior between developer and applicant.

As developer everything works fine, no problems here. Click on Logon as a Manager -> Next Screen.

As applicant everything is fine on the initial load of the application. Click on Logon as a Manager -> the application reloads from scratch -> Labels get wrapped wrong.

But there is definitely an extra step, when the application reloads. I use the LeaveRequest template from MicroSoft and make small changes. I check the setting, all of them is like you recommend. So.. it is hard to understand what happen here.

Hi @Nusserdt, just by pure coincidence I was building a PoC tonight using Excel as a source and I see wrapping bugs on labels within my gallery where the text wraps mid word.  As soon as I pull the excel source into a Collection and use the collection source instead - it solves most of them.  The others can come from lots of padding of the label especially on the right, if that's zero I have no issues.  Let us know if it helps!

@NMCLEOD thanks for that answer, that clears a lot. I try it out and it works. Unfortunately providing the data in Excel is a hard constraint, because my colleague have to modify some data and it is the easiest way for him.

I recognize the problems which you describe in your first answer about OneDrive. I would happy if it possible to provide Excel in SharePoint, but it isn't. A huge issue is, that everyone who want to use the PowerApp needs write access to to data.xlsx file. That's very unpractical, because every colleague and also new colleagues need to grant access to the file.

Is there any workaround to automatically grant access to that file? Or can I open it to everyone (what is also a bad solution... but I see no alternative)?

Sadly, without a solution I have to cancel this project. 😞
