Need help showing/hiding a text box based on value of dropdown

I'm trying to show/hide a text box in a form depending on the value selected in a dropdown box.

The code I am using in the Visible property of the text box is:

If(Type_x0020_of_x0020_Event.Value="Other",true,false)

So if the user has selected Other then the text box shows. However the text box never shows and when I pass the dropdown value to another label it is always showing as the first option in the dropdown and not the actual option that has been selected.

Any ideas what I am doing wrong? Thanks

Apologies, I probably wasn't too clear in my reply.

The syntax that works is this:

If([NameOfDropDownControl].Selected.Value="Other",true,false)

For example, here's the syntax from the highlighted part of my screenshot:

If([DataCardValue10].Selected.Value="Other",true,false)

In your case, you would need to replace [DataCardValue10] with the name of your dropdown. You can find out the name by clicking the dropdown in your 'Type of Event' card and looking in the properties pane.

Still doesn't work I'm afraid. The issue is that I cannot use the "Selected" parameter as this thows up an error.

I have just created a blank app and added a dropdown and a label box and the solution you provided works fine in that.

However, in my form from Sharepoint I cannot use the Selected option, only the Value option. And doing it this way only ever gives me the first value in the list rather than the value that has been selected.

I'm guessing the issue is related to the fact that the form has been auto-generated from the Sharepoint list and something is not quite right with the dropdown choice list. Here is screenshot of the list in Sharepoint.

The reason why it gives you error on Selected is because you don’t use the name of your dropdown item as @timl said.

If(Type_x0020_of_x0020_Event.Selected.Value="Other",true,false)

This is wrong and it will never works. You must use instead of

Type_x0020_of_x0020_Event

Name of your dropdown item

So first find out what is the dropdown name you are usiing to display Type_x0020_of_x0020_Event. And then replace it in your code. If your dropdown is named “dropdown1” then the code should be

If(Dropdown1.Selected.Value="Other",true,false)

Ahhhhh. Right I get it. So the actual name I need to use is the one that says DataCardValue14 at the top of the properties pane.

That seems to have done the trick, simple when you know how!

I know this thread is old but I'm having a very similar issue. The dropdown box that I have is pulling values from a sharepoint list and I've tried a few different syntaxes but it just doesn't seem to matter.

Visible=If([DataCardValue19].Selected.Value="No",true,false)

The card just stays hidden... any ideas?

Hi All, I am facing similar issue and need to Power Apps. Will some one be able to help on this. I am using dropdown control - with just 2 values. (Yes/No). 

When i select value "No", Textfield : comments should be disabled. 

It worked . when i write this logic

Visible = "Yes" in dropdownctl.selected.value

But when form loads, doesn't refresh comments fields correctly.
