Network Error when using Patch function: The Specified Column is generated by the server and can't be specified

I'm having an issue with a patch function showing the above error and I can't figure out why it's happening. This is the forumla:

The patch goes to a sharepoint list called "QA Form Entries". I've put what type of column each field is in italics for reference.

All of the choice fields are either radio buttons or combo boxes, the person fields are controled by combo boxes too with only the agent being selectable, the other three are auto filled based on the user (evaluator) and their managers via O365.


I did also try switching out the rich text editor for just a regular text editor but it didn't fix the issue either. Does anyone know why this error is appearing or how I can tell which column it's reffering too? It doesn't highlight a specific field, just the whole patch function.

The suspect are your person columns.  If the comboboxes that you have to select them are based on (the Items property) Office365 lookups, then those are not SharePoint user records.  They need to be converted to such before submitting.

Are those based on Office365 users?

Both of those determinations are completely dependent on the Items properties of those controls...

Choice fields can be given the Selected record of a control that has records with Value columns, for example.

Your Person field record is missing information that will cause the record to not be stored.

SharePoint likes to get a full record, or it will reject it.

i.e.

Hey! Thanks for the reply. The Combo Boxes are all set up like this:
Choices([@'QA Form Entries'].Agent)

So I think they should be the same format as the sharepoint person fields. I've used this setup before with other patches without issue but I'll try switching it up if you think it will help. If I get the chance to test today I will post an update

I replaced all the Person Fields with the record format you posted but sadly it hasn't worked. I also check another patch function I'd used elsewhere and tried the format:

This works in another patch but doesn't work here so it must be something else. I've also checked all the radio boxes to make sure their Items are the Choices available for that column in the list and they all match up.

The only difference I can find is that the previous Patch worked off a form, whereas this patch all the inputs are individual as it was easier to do with the layout I've gone for.

I could get around it by making an invisible form that has the defaults set to the input for this form but it would be very inefficient. I'd also still like to get to the bottom of this just for my own knowledge going forward so any other ideas would be much appreciated

Figured it out, it had been so long since I created the sharepoint list, I forgot that the column "Evaluator" was actually a renamed "Created By" Column 🤣

By trying to define it, the patch failed. Can't say why it didn't give the column name though

The issue turned out to be that I was trying to define a metadata column which you can't do. I just got rid of the Evaluator field in the patch function since it was a renamed "Created By" Field.

This error come when a Field in table is not editable and you are try to insert data in it.
