Office 365 E3 License + Flow Per Plan Question

Hi all,

Looking at the current licensing guide on standalone and seeded licenses for both PowerApps and Power Automate, I something would like to clear up.

If let say I am using O365 E3 license, I can use PowerApps with standard connectors (excel, sharepoint, etc). I will have no access to on-prem gateway and premium connectors. But if I also subscribe standalone Power Automate Flow per plan, it will entitled me to use premium connectors and on-prem gateway.

The license that I have is O365 E3 + Standalone Power Automate Flow Per Plan. So here's the questions:

1. PowerApp canvas app that directly connected to a premium connector will not work, even if I have the Flow per plan that will enable gateway and premium connectors usage. Is that correct?

2. PowerApp canvas app that trigger Flow, that is connected to on-prem gateway and premium connectors will be working just fine. It just a matter of fact that all the read, update actions will need to go through the Flow now instead of direct connection from the app. Is that correct?

Would like to double check my understanding before presenting it to the board. Appreciate your help.

Thanks for your suggestion and I will definitely do that to double confirm the scenario.

Hi, just to share with you, the reply I got from another Microsoft support.

Regarding your concerns with – Power Apps use rights when you have Office E3 and Power Automate licenses, please be informed that:

  1. The canvas app will only be able to connect with standard connectors, not premium connectors or on-prem gateway.
  2. Your flows will be eligible to use premium connectors/on-prem gateway. However, your canvas app that triggers one of those flow cannot connect with premium connectors.
  3. User will need to have a standalone Power Apps license to use those connectors/gateways in their app. That is the reason why user is asked to register Power Apps trial plan.

#2 is correct.  You won't be able to use the premium connector inside the canvas app itself, only inside the flow kicked off by the Canvas App.  But if the flow is kicked off by the canvas app you will be asked to approve the permissions needed when you launch the canvas app. That is when you are being prompted to start a trial and that should NOT happen.  So #3 is incorrect, unless you are trying to use the connectors directly in the App.
