Patch Attachments

Hi,

I am using the new attachments option just released and I need to save the attachments but I do not know the syntax for PAtch to save the attachments.  I use Attachments:dcvAttachment.Attachments but it says the specified column does not exist.

I do not actually have a column called attachments in my SP List but I have enabled the attachments option and I can see a column called Attachments if I view the list.

I cannot use SubmitForm as it has limitations where it resets to defaults which will not work for me.

Any ideas on how to save the attachments using Patch?

Hi @Gargoolgala,

See the limitation of attachment control:

Upload and delete functionality only work inside a form. Attachment control will look disabled when in Edit mode and not inside a form. Note that in order to save the file additions and deletions to the back end, the end user must save the form.

It seems that so far you cannot use Patch to upload the attachments to SharePoint. Please consider to add comments in below thread:

It seems MS keep on doing the minimum on new features - I understand it needs to be in a form and I have done that but due to the limitations of SubmitForm I need to use patch which is working for all other fields. I suppose I should also push for enhancements on the SubmitForm option e.g. do not reset to default

I will keep experimenting on options to save but MS are truly pushing my limits on Powerapps being a usable tool.

OK - I worked this one out 🙂

As I could not use Submit form as it resets all defaults - grrr - I needed to use patch but did not know the correct syntax to save it. 

The way around it was to use Patch but instead of individually Patching such as this:

I converted to this: GAForm.Updates;frmEnvironment.Updates - as I have multiple forms I can add in the update to them all with ; - I did not know I could use .Updates in Patch to do this - so this has been a blessing in itself as I no longer need to patch every item and the .Updates takes care of the attachments for me so I do not need to know the individual syntax for it 🙂

Hi Gargoolgala,

Can you please explain your solution in details? I am also having similar problem where I have used Collect function to create item in SharePoint list and Patch to update those items. Now I also need to have attachments in the form. Any help will be highly appreciated.

I have the same problem, I already have a form which send informationsthrough the Patch function.

Now, My client wanted to add a Attachment control.

Hi @bilaldev and @Anonymous,

I think the only solution left (because @Gargoolgala seems to not be present on this board anymore), is to create an app and an entire screen/editform from your SP list which has the attachments. You'll have the good datacards in the edit form. And then, submit it all.

I was able to do it, and edit my EditForm by replacing every datacard value by another.

Explanation :

To do a Contact form, i've two lists:

I got a List01 which is a param list, procuring Service's email, Store's email and Store's name.

I have a List02 which is my reception list, storing the Cases the stores employees are sending.

I've created my app based on List02, and edited the Store's name field, so that it shows the right store name, depending on the email of the current user (which is his store's email). But that data comes from List01. So just add a datasource, and modify every datacard field with others.

And then, you'll be able to submit your form, and not patch it, so the Attachments will be submitted to.

I have found a solution to save attachment, update other fields of the sharepoint list and also validate fields on button click.

Here is the code  :

First this it is checking for all the mandatory fields and submitting the form, then patch is modifing the last submitted form and changing the currentStatus value to 'Started'. This is working fine in chrome, Microsoft edge and mozilla but not working in IE.

In IE only SubmitForm() is working on button click, patch is not working.

Hi All - I actually worked around this by not using PAtch but instead went back to submit form.  My issue was that submit form would reset to the default item which I could not do.  Instead I decoupled the record ID from the form and made sure that I only referenced the variable instead of the selected item ithe gallery - this way it does not reset my form to the first record and I get all the features of SubmitForm e.g. easily saving attachments andvalidation etc.
