Patch/ Update SP List from Gallery.selected?

Hi

I thought previously I have been able to patch a selected gallery back to a SP list to update any changed records, but this now doesn't appear to want to work.

I have a gallery with several text inputs with their defaults set to 'ThisItem.<value>'.

When I change or amend a record, or when I want to create a new record, I thought I could have something along the lines of:

Patch(DataSource,Gallery1.Selected)

***I suppose I could use a FORM instead. It's just that I prefer the formatting options available when using a gallery and separate input controls?***

...but it appears I need to include each and every field I want to update, such as:

Patch(DataSource,Gallery1.Selected),

{Column1: TextInput1.Text})

Is there a way to just patch / update all values in the gallery without having to declare them all separately?

Hi @jed76 ,

Technically, if the elements in the Gallery selected record all exist in the SharePoint list with exactly the same field names and field types (including the ID) then it should update the SP list with this record, but to be honest if that does not work (there is no other code to be offered here), consider spending the couple of minutes in the one-time job (as I do) and line up the fields - it always works.

I thought it should work. So which field names have to match - the actual name of the TextInput boxes have to match the column names? And also I presume the default for each text input must match too with ThisItem.<columnname>?

Hi @jed76 ,

You are far better trying to patch the collection that forms the gallery rather than the gallery itself - in the collection, all fields there need to exist in both name and field type to match the data source - updating the list (not new records) also require the ID to be one of these fields. I tend to spend the time to be very specific with my data writes, so simply "line them all up" in the Patch - that will work and keep working.
