Powerapps Flow Trigger using File System connector asking for license upgrade

Hi all,

I've set up a gateway to our on-prem server and a connector and am using the File System action in a flow.

I can manually trigger a flow in Power Automate using this connector with no issue at all, but if I use a Powerapps trigger and add the action to a button in my powerapp, suddenly Powerapps is telling me I don't have the correct license and I can't open the published app in Teams (or it asks me to sign up for a Powerapps trial outside of Teams).

For clarification, I can preview the app, and run the trigger within the preview and it works fine, but once I publish it and try to open it it asks me to sign up for a powerapps trial.

And of course, the gateway is shared with me as well, and I have an Office 365 Business Premium License and a Flow Plan 1 license.

The app has been working perfectly fine prior to this (my previous flow was just creating files in a Sharepoint document library), but as soon as I try and add the flow using the 'File System' connector, it asks for a license upgrade.

In the MS documentation for File System, it lists it as a standard connection for Logic Apps, Flow and Powerapps, and there is no diamond (premium) icon next to the connection in Power Automate.

Can anyone clear this up for me? Is the documentation incorrect?

Cheers,

Chris

Hi @cfebvre ,

Do you create a conection to your File System connector using On-premises Data Gateway?

Do you have no PowerApps Plan license for your account?

Based on the issue that you mentioned, I think this issue is related to PowerApps license. According to the license that you mentiond, I think you would use the Office 365 Business Premium License to run your canvas app, is it true?

Actually, when you run your app including a flow connection, it would ask you to provide credentials to any connections on which the flow relies. then the connection would stored within your app cache.

Note: The Flow Plan 1 does not include PowerApps functionality, so it would use the Office 365 Business Premium license to run your app and use the connections included in your app.

Currently, within PowerApps, if you want to create a connection to On-premises connector, you must own separated PowerApps Plan license. The Office 365 license does not have access to On-premises connector ("File System" connector).

On your side, please consider purchase a PowerApps Plan 1 license for your account, or sign up a free trial PowerApps license for your account, then try your app again, check if the issue is solved.

Hi @v-xida-msft Kris,

Thanks for getting back to me.

I have indeed created a connection to the File System connector using On-premises Data Gateway, and I do not have a Power Apps Plan license attached to my account.

I believe that my Office 365 Business Premium account runs the canvas app, yes.

"Actually, when you run your app including a flow connection, it would ask you to provide credentials to any connections on which the flow relies. then the connection would stored within your app cache."

This is true, and it has asked for credentials for various connectors in the past.

"Currently, within PowerApps, if you want to create a connection to On-premises connector, you must own separated PowerApps Plan license. The Office 365 license does not have access to On-premises connector ("File System" connector)."

This is what I find strange - I can create Flows using the 'File System' connector, and run them using a manual trigger within Power Automate. I can even run a flow using the Powerapps Trigger with a 'File System' connector in the Preview environment of Power Apps. It's only when I publish the app that it throws a licence problem at me. I don't quite understand why my current licence level allows me to do all of that if I ultimately can't use it.

But if I assume that this is correct - that I will need a Powerapps Plan 1 licence - will that be true of all users that would need to use this app, or only myself - the creator of the app and flows attached to it?

I've hunted around, but I can't find any clear information regarding each licence, and which specific connectors are and are not available to each service within those licences. Is there a url or doc you can point me to?

As I say, the current documentation lists the 'File System' connector as a standard connector:

And this is identical to the Sharepoint connector documentation (which works perfectly fine, and allows me to publish the app and use it with my current licence model - and that of the end users):

Kind regards,

Chris

Hi @cfebvre ,

Since October 1, 2019, there are some updates on the PowerApps licenses. Please check the following article:

https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/power-platform/admin/powerapps-flow-licensing-faq

Note: Existing customers will be able to maintain the P1 and P2 plans for Power Apps and Power Automate for the duration of their current subscription period, and they may be eligible to also renew under current terms depending upon when their subscription period expires.

Actually, the "File System" connector is a On-premises connector, it needs to create a connection using On-premises Data Gateway. Currently, Office 365 license could not access On-premises connector in PowerApps/Power Automate.

On your side, you could consider purchase a PowerApps license for your account or sign up a free PowerApps license for your account, then try your app again, check if the issue is fixed.
