Problems loading data on OnStart after update to v...

I have a complex data loader using on-premise gateway implemented at the "OnStart" event of my app.

Until yesterday everyrthing worked fine; after the framework was updated from version 3.18034.7 to 3.18041.20 the dataloader doesn't work any longer.

It seems that the script is postponed to the "OnVisible" event; the app tries to load data but hangs after a long time....

I updated the on-premise gateway also to version 14.16.6650.1.

The last version of app deployed with version 3.18034.7 works fine.

Any advice for solution is welcome.

@Anonymous Thank you for reporting your problem on the forums. Indeed, a change was made to "OnStart" where we would dismiss the splash screen earlier even if there are still pending data calls to another service. My guess would be that your app is taking a long time to load your data even after the splash screen was dismissed.

We do not encourage loading data on OnStart. Instead, consider using the LoadData/SaveData functions to load your data. More info can be found here: https://powerapps.microsoft.com/en-us/blog/build-offline-apps-with-new-powerapps-capabilities/

If your data is not loading at all, then this is a separate problem we can investgate further. Please provide to us a session ID if this is the case and we can assist you further :).

Thanks for the quick answer; ok, I will try to choose another way to load data into the app. By the way: the link in your posting leads to error 404. It seems to be dead 😞

Hi Jeff,

thanks for reply; after the PowerApps App for iOS was updated on the devices within the weekend, the app load data again. But something is still wrong. After loading has finished there is an error message on the top of the first screen (look at the attached screenshot (it's in german, sorry). It's strange becaus all data were loaded into the app. Is there a way to "track" the behaviour of the laoding script or something else to catch the error?

@Anonymous Seems like the loadData call failed. Can you grab a session ID for me? I can take a look at our logs.

On WebPlayer, you can grab the session ID from "Settings (gear icon) -> Session Details".
On Authoring, you can grab the session ID from "Accounts -> Session Details"

The problem only exists on the iPad device. I made a screenshot witth the latest session-id, which had this error.

Thank you for your patience while we investigated this issue. I seem to have been mistaken for using LoadData for preloading data into your app. While it is still not recommended to use OnStart to load data, if you add a Navigate rule (i.e. Navigate([Your First Screen], None)) to the OnStart formula, then OnStart will behave as it did prior to 18041.
