Radio Button in gallery keeps resetting when changing screen

Hi All,

I'm having this issue aboutn the radio button that I cannot really understand. I read several posts on this issue (some posts really close to my situation) but I am not able to find the solution.

I have a gallery that takes the information from a share point list in my Homescreen.

The setting are the follow:

Homescreen --> OnVisible --> Clearcollect(MyCollection; MySPList)

Gallery --> Items --> MyCollection

Radio --> Items --> [OK;KO]

If I change the screen (no matter what screen) the radio reset its value.

The odd thing is that it happens basically always on the first change and then after several changes. So sometimes after change 3/4 times, sometimes after 6/7.

I tried the solution proposed in this post because it seems that he had the same issue

Radio --> OnChange --> Patch(MyCollection;LookUp(MyCollection, ID = ThisItem.ID),{Answer:Radio.Selected.Value})

Radio --> Defaults --> Thisitem.Answer

But does not work.

If I do this everytime I change screen the button reset itself plus I cannot see the data in the collection so I think I'm doing something wrong.

Can anyone help me in this please?

Hi @ilTac ,

The entire issue revolves around this (from your post) Defaults --> Thisitem.Answer.

Any control in a gallery resets any time the gallery is reset, by either running a command from inside the gallery or (as you have) changed screens back to it.

So the question is whether ThisItem.Answer (or the underlying data source/ collection in the gallery Items) has changed during whatever it is you are doing.

thank you for the answer.

I thought that by patching the Radio value using this line

Radio --> OnChange --> Patch(MyCollection;LookUp(MyCollection, ID = ThisItem.ID),{Answer:Radio.Selected.Value})

I was able to store the Radio data in the collection.

But if I understood correctly everytime I go back to the HomeScreen the line

Homescreen --> OnVisible --> Clearcollect(MyCollection; MySPList)

clears out my collection and also the Radio data that I stored? Am I right?

There is a way to store the data and not loosing them with ClearCollect?

Shoud I store the data in a new collection?

Hi @ilTac ,

Yes - that is the cause of the problem (clearing the collection) - I cannot see your app, data or process flow, but you have to make a decision here (this is a logic, not a coding issue) on when you clear the collection. Storing in another collection will not really help as you would then need to "point" the gallery Items and the Toggle at that collection (not the current item). It is easy enough to store one value in a Variable, but you are dealing with a Table where each Answer field can have a different value.

Hi @WarrenBelz ,

I tried to use Collect(MyCollection; MySPList) but this way everytime I go back to the HomeScreen the gallery increases its items with the data from the data source (The sharepoint list) so this is not an option of course.

Could it be a possible solution to use the SP list as data source for the gallery? The radio button will keep the value?

Yes - you could use the main data source as the Items of the Gallery, but (counter-intuitively) you probably would no longer need the collection. Also operationally, do you want to update the main data immediately an item is edited i the gallery ?

No I just want the selected option in the radio be visible while using the app and navigate among screen, then I have a submit button that will save all the data of the gallery in a Sharepoint list.

That is what I thought, so you are back to your original issue - if you clear the Collection and the Default of the Radio is a field in the collection, the Radio will reset. The only way to retain the value is to not change whatever the Items of the Gallery are when you set the field value.
