Hi,
I am building an app that saves and retrieves data stored in a SP list. The SP list contains text columns and a data column. I am able to store the data into the SP list without a problem, but when I try to retrieve it and populate a collection connected to a gallery, I get a error: incompatible type in the collection.
This code is what fails: ClearCollect(ProjectHoursCollection,ShowColumns(IndProjectsTimeCard,"Title","EndDate","Project","Role","Hours"),{ShowSaveButton:true, showEmptyWarning:false});
"EndDate" is the column in question. I have a Date Picker in my gallery that is referencing this column. Is there a way to change the field type within the ClearCollect to make it compatible? (If I remove "EndDate" from the code, it pulls the other text columns in without a problem.)
thanks
Solved! Go to Solution.
Thanks! That was what I was looking for...where you collect items. You're using EndDate:"" in your record. This is causing PowerApps to see this as a Text column...not a date column! So when you try to put a date in it, it is telling you it is not compatible.
Change to EndDate: Blank()
What is the specific error you are seeing?
Most likely you are converting to a different type in some other formula in your app.
The exact error is: Incompatible Type. The collection can't contain values of this type.
I do have a save button that converts the Date Picker data using DateValue function.
First, you need not use the DateValue function as the DatePicker already has a DateValue in the SelectedDate property.
Incidentally, in looking at your original formula, not sure if you copied and pasted what you have, but there is a syntax error in it.
ClearCollect(ProjectHoursCollection,
AddColumns(
ShowColumns(IndProjectsTimeCard,"Title","EndDate","Project","Role","Hours"),
"ShowSaveButton", true,
"showEmptyWarning", false
)
);
Not sure what you are using those other two columns for and they should really not be in the data of the collection, but if there is a purpose, then the above is what your formula should be.
Syntax was okay. That section of code works fine when I remove the "EndDate."
In my save button, I have the following code. Note that if I remove DateValue from the EndDate it complains that it is expecting a date value. I assume it is looking at the SP list column field type?:
ForAll(ProjectHoursCollection,
If(!IsBlank(StartDate),
Patch(IndProjectsTimeCard, Defaults(IndProjectsTimeCard),
{
Employee: User().Email,
EndDate: DateValue(EndDate),
Project: Project,
Role: Role,
Hours: Value(Hours)
})));
Navigate(MainScreen)
Your syntax would be providing you incorrect record in your table. With your formula you would end up with X number of rows that have "Title","EndDate","Project","Role","Hours" columns, and the two additional records that one will have one column and the other will have the other column values you are providing.
I would suggest what I provided to do it accurately.
Your problem though is a couple of things.
1) Your ForAll is backward - ForAll is a function that returns a table of records. You're using it like a ForLoop in development. This is going to impact your performance as well.
2) You are doing a conversion on the EndDate to a DatValue...which it already is. So, the more interesting information will be, how are you setting the EndDate column in your gallery? What other formula do you have that sets the record values in your collection?
Ideally, your formula should be:
Patch(IndProjectsTimeCard,
ForAll(Filter(ProjectHoursCollection, !IsBlank(StartDate)),
{
Employee: User().Email,
EndDate: EndDate,
Project: Project,
Role: Role,
Hours: Value(Hours)
}
)
);
Navigate(MainScreen)
And also, to be certain on things...your Employee column is a single text column? EndDate is a Date column? Project and Role are both single text columns, and Hours is a numeric column?
For the Data Picker in the gallery, I am using DefaultDate=ThisItem.EndDate
Yes, only EndDate is a Date column.
Please look back at my last post and let me know the answers to the questions that were in blue.
Except the last blue questions...you did answer that - thanks.
"how are you setting the EndDate column in your gallery?" For the Date Picker, I am using DefaultDate=ThisItem.EndDate
"What other formula do you have that sets the record values in your collection?" Save Button for each gallery item:
If(IsBlank(Hours.Text) || IsBlank(EndDate.SelectedDate),
{ShowEmptyWarning:true}
,
{ShowEmptyWarning:false};
Patch(ProjectHoursCollection, ThisItem,{Employee:User().Email,
EndDate: EndDate.SelectedDate,
Project: Project.SelectedText.Value,
Role: Role.Selected.Value,
Hours: Hours.Text, ShowSaveButton: false});
If(EditPressed, false,Collect(ProjectHoursCollection,{Employee:User().Email,EndDate: "", Project: "", Role: "", Hours: "", ShowSaveButton: true}));
UpdateContext({EditPressed: false});
Set(NeedsSaved,false));
And, the initial button to open the gallery:
ClearCollect(ProjectHoursCollection,{Employee: "",EndDate: "", Project: "", Role: "", Hours:"", ShowSaveButton: true,ShowEmptyWarning:false});
Navigate(NewItem,ScreenTransition.Cover)
thank you.
